All 38 Animals in Green Hell: Dangers, Taming and Breeding

Updated on November 1, 2026 (3 days ago)

Green Hell is a survival game set in the Amazon jungle, and the animals are a big part of the challenge. The jungle is home to mammals, reptiles, fish, birds, amphibians and insects, from jaguars and pumas to capybaras, tapirs and Brazilian wasps. Some of these animals are dangerous to be near, some can be caught in traps for food and bait, and a few can be tamed and kept in a pen at your base. Knowing which is which makes it much easier to stay alive.

Which Animals Are Dangerous in Green Hell

Jaguars and pumas are the big cats to watch for in Green Hell. Pumas can be difficult to spot, and jaguars are among the dangerous predators you'll meet in the jungle. Jaguars and black caimans also come to watering holes to drink and hunt, so the rivers and ponds where animals gather deserve extra care.

The water brings its own risks. Piranhas and stingrays are a danger whenever you wade in, and leeches can latch onto your arms and legs after you walk through wet plants. Black caimans swim fast but move slowly on land, so knowing that helps you decide how close to get.

Poisonous spiders, scorpions and rattlesnakes are dangerous in their own ways. Poison dart frogs need their own kind of caution too.

How to Hear Danger Before You See It

Many of these animals are easy to miss, so sound is your best early warning. Pumas growl, spiders skitter and rattlesnakes rattle, so when you hear one of these noises, slow down and look around before you move on.

Those same sounds can also point you to prey. Listening carefully helps with hunting as well as with staying safe.

Why Poison Dart Frogs Are Best Left Alone

Picking up a live poison dart frog with bare hands gives you a venom wound and a fever. The safest thing to do with one is leave it where it is, unless you're making poison darts for the blowpipe, which need a live frog.

Fish Traps for Piranhas, Peacock Bass and Arowana

Traps let fish come to you instead of chasing them. Both kinds of fish trap work better with larvae or maggots as bait.

The fishing rod trap goes beside rivers or ponds, and it catches fish even without bait. Piranhas and peacock bass are the usual catches. Each fish is worth a decent amount of protein and always leaves fish bones. You don't need fish swimming nearby for it to work, though a nearby fish can raise the chance of one showing up in the trap.

The stick fish trap is a half-submerged cage of sticks that sits in water, though the water doesn't need to be deep. It can't catch fish that are already swimming past, so it works by spawning fish inside the cage. You can place it where you can reach it without wading in.

The large stick fish trap is the bigger version, and it can also land larger fish.

Taming Capybaras, Tapirs and Peccaries

Capybaras, tapirs and peccaries are the animals you can tame in Green Hell. The blowpipe is how you catch them, since its sedative puts them to sleep. Once one is asleep, you can tie it up, take it back to your base and set it up in a pen you've built.

Caring for Tamed Animals and Breeding Them

Tamed animals need fresh food and water, and a tidy pen so they don't get sick. Keep the feeding and water troughs filled, and give them enough room to move around.

Breeding needs a male and a female in the same pen. When you keep up with feeding, cleaning and space, you have a chance of a newborn showing up, and the more regular your care, the better the odds.

Brazilian Wasps, Honey and the Queen Bee

Brazilian wasps are the honey insects of Green Hell. They build gray nests on dead trees, and they attack when you get near a nest. You can't kill them, so getting honey is about protecting yourself rather than fighting.

Collecting honey still means risking stings. To start a hive at your base, find a colony in the jungle and take its Queen Bee to a beehive you've built.

Giant Anteaters and Armadillos in Your Pens

Armadillos, three-banded armadillos and giant anteaters can be bred in the pens you build. Feeding troughs hold insects for them to eat.

Anthills show you where giant anteaters tend to gather, which makes them easier to find. Be careful when you approach them, since they can be very aggressive.

FAQ

Q.

Can you pet tamed animals in Green Hell?

Yes. Feed and care for a tamed animal and it comes to trust you, and then you can pet it.

Q.

Why is my stick fish trap not catching anything?

Fish won't spawn in a trap while you're close to it or can see it. Set it out of sight and keep your distance.

Q.

How do you get honeycomb from Brazilian wasps safely?

A lit torch, or armor on both arms, makes taking honeycomb and the Queen Bee safer. Get one ready before you approach a nest.
