Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a truck driving game where you take the seat of licensed trucks and drive them across European roads and cities. The roads, cities and landmarks are modeled closely on real places, so it feels like you are really out on the road. Driving is only part of it, though, because the game also lets you create and grow your own shipping company.
Your work starts with choosing a haul from the job market. You then drive your truck and trailer to the destination, and when the cargo arrives you earn money and experience. Experience grows with the distance you cover, and you put that money and experience into improving your driver and your truck, then pick your next haul.
You can work as a hired driver with Quick Jobs, sitting behind the wheel of trucks that belong to someone else, or build your own company with garages, trucks and hired drivers. Either way, experience turns into skill points that unlock better job offers with higher rewards, and the game has no fixed career path to follow. You can play alone or join friends in Convoy, the game's online co-op mode for driving, delivering and chatting.

Cargo Types
Cargo types are the freight loads offered through jobs in Euro Truck Simulator 2, from food and building materials to cars and heavy machinery. Each one comes with its own trailer bodies, and some also need an ADR certificate or a skill before the job can be taken. Base game cargo needs no paid pack, while the rest is labelled with the cargo pack or map expansion it comes from.
Trucks
Trucks are the vehicles players drive to haul trailers in Euro Truck Simulator 2. They come from DAF, Iveco, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Renault, Scania and Volvo, and many models share a name across generations or emission standards. Players buy them at dealers and set up the cab, chassis, engine and transmission first, while some electric models are only offered on preset Quick Jobs.
Trailer Setups
Trailer setups are the trailers you hook behind your truck, made from a trailer body and a chain type such as Single, Double, B-Double or HCT. The body decides which cargo the trailer can haul, and the chain sets its overall length and axle count. Many setups can be bought at the Trailer Dealer and customized in the trailer upgrade shop, while a few are only available on jobs.
Countries and Map DLCs
Countries are the regions where your roads, cities and deliveries sit. Many come with the base game, which covers much of Western and Central Europe, while others need a map DLC bought on Steam. Some countries are split between the base map and an add-on, and others grow when a later DLC expands them. Owning the right map DLCs also shapes which jobs you can take and where you can buy garages.
ETS2 gameplay tips
Take Quick Jobs early. Quick Jobs let you earn money and experience while you save toward your first truck.
Take longer routes once your skills allow it. Trips over 250 km pay 5% more and add a 25% experience bonus, and the reward bonus keeps rising as you unlock longer distances.
Use your experience to acquire ADR certificates. These let you take dangerous goods work, such as carrying fuels and gases, and they substantially increase your income.
Mix hired work with your own fleet. You can switch between the two freely, so a one-off job with special terms can fit in alongside your company.
Take a bank loan early if you want a company quickly. The loan gives you money for garages and trucks sooner, so you can start building your fleet sooner.
