The track through Dead Rails is a generated line of biomes, buildings, and one-off landmarks, and knowing what can spawn where is the difference between looting on a schedule and gambling with fuel. Guaranteed stops anchor every run; rare uniques like the Tesla Lab are the reason to slow down.

How the track generates
Biomes recolor stretches of desert and reshuffle what spawns in them, while buildings and towns populate the line at their listed rarities and track ranges. A location marked guaranteed anchors your route planning; a rare one is a bonus, not a plan. The kilometer ranges matter because difficulty scales with distance, and a building at 60km holds better loot and worse company than the same shell at 10km.
Routing a run
- Learn the guaranteed stops first: towns for selling, stations for breathing room.
- Unique locations are loot spikes with a boss tax; check the inhabitants line before committing at night.
- Biome effects change loot and threats, so a biome announcement is routing information, not decoration.
- Do not stop for everything. Fuel spent idling at a low-value building is fuel the night charges interest on.
FAQ
Are locations the same every run?
No. The track generates each run, but every location keeps its spawn rarity and track range, so guaranteed stops always appear somewhere in their band.
What is the best location for loot?
Unique locations like the Tesla Lab hold the standout loot but pair it with a miniboss or dense spawns. Among common stops, towns are the reliable economy anchor.
Do biomes change gameplay?
Yes, they swap which entities and loot appear along their stretch and can change weather effects, so a biome transition is worth a route rethink.
