Dead Rails is a co-op survival ride through a zombie-infested Wild West: you and up to three teammates keep a steam train rolling down a generated track, looting stops for fuel, weapons, and valuables while the dead try to climb aboard. The run is measured in kilometers, and every one of them raises the stakes.
The loop is a rhythm of stops and sprints. Towns sell weapons, ammo, and healing and buy your loot; buildings along the line hide supplies and the occasional miniboss guarding something worth the risk. Fuel is the clock behind everything, because a train that runs dry after dark becomes a very quiet place very fast.
Classes bought with Bonds shape each attempt, from simple loadout picks like Cowboy and Miner to ability classes that transform the whole run. Between the class roster, purchasable trains, biome stretches, and unique landmarks like the Tesla Lab, no two trips down the line play quite the same, and the only real goal is simple: keep rolling.

Game data
Classes:
Classes set your starting kit and price in Bonds: standard picks like Cowboy and Miner hand you gear that carries the early kilometers, while ability classes add a permanent passive such as transforming at night or spawning with a horse. You buy each once with Bonds earned from runs, and the choice shapes how a whole run plays before the first stop.
Weapons:
Weapons range from shovels and revolvers to welded contraptions and unique relics like Excalibur, each with distinct body and headshot damage, fire rate, and price. Standard tiers come from town shops while the best spawns hide deeper down the track in buildings and boss locations. Since ammo is permanently scarce, headshot efficiency decides what earns a slot on the train.
Items:
Items cover everything useful that is not a weapon: bandages and consumables that keep the team alive, tools and lanterns that keep the train running through the night, puzzle pieces for locked rooms, and the valuables that get sold for money at town stops. Inventory space is tight, so knowing each item's effect and sell value decides what actually gets carried.
Entities:
Entities are everything alive, or formerly alive, along the track: a dozen zombie variants, night predators like werewolves, tamable horses, and minibosses such as Nikola Tesla guarding the best loot rooms. Each has concrete HP, damage, and speed numbers, and many corpses can be sold at towns for money. Knowing which threats outrun you decides where every fight should happen.
Trains:
Trains are the mobile base of every run, bought once with Bonds and chosen before departure. Each build trades among base speed, armor, and layout: open platforms that four guns can defend, sealed hulls like the Armored Train that shrug off boarders, and specialist engines with mounted weapons. The right pick depends on crew size more than budget.
Locations:
Locations cover everything the generated track can place in a run: biome stretches that reshuffle spawns, towns and buildings that anchor looting and selling, and rare one-off landmarks like the Tesla Lab with the best loot and a resident boss. Each has a spawn rarity and a kilometer range, so route planning is really a spawn-table reading exercise.

Dead Rails Gameplay Tips
- Keep the firebox fed before anything else. A stopped train at night is how most runs end, so coal and wood outrank loot.
- Loot with a route, not a vacuum. Towns are for selling and restocking, buildings near the track are for quick grabs, and deep detours need a horse.
- Fight from the train when you can. Walls and height beat most zombies, and fast entities like wolves lose their edge against a moving platform.
- Spend early Bonds on a cheap class with a starting weapon. The value of a revolver at kilometer zero is bigger than any late luxury.
- Respect the night. Spawns multiply and supernatural threats join in, so plan to be moving, fueled, and aboard when the sun goes down.
- Check unique buildings before opening doors at night. Minibosses guard the best loot and do not care that you only came for the safe.
- Sell corpses and junk at every town. Wolves, valuables, and spare gear convert into fuel, ammo, and bandages, which are the only currencies that matter at the end.
