Dagger Types in Conan Exiles
Daggers come in four main styles: standard daggers, claws, punching daggers and chakrams. They share the same quick, close-range idea, but each style has its own feel and moves. Punching daggers stand apart a little, since their alternate attacks play out differently from a regular dagger's. Chakrams are a bit different again, with their own set of moves.
Punching daggers and regular daggers can carry the same perks, so the choice often comes down to how each one feels to use. It's worth trying both to see which style suits the way you fight.
How Daggers Fight
Daggers are built for speed, so the usual goal is to land quick hits and keep moving. The trade-off is reach. You have to stay close to the enemy, and each hit does less than a heavier weapon would, so a dagger rarely wins with a single big blow. That's why the effects on each hit matter so much in this style of fighting.
Dagger Perks and What They Do
Most of a dagger's power can come from its perk, the extra effect that triggers when you land a hit. Armor is what these effects are often built to get around, since it blunts plain hits. Bleed shows up on many of the strongest daggers, and it adds to a damage-over-time effect that keeps ticking after you've moved away. It ignores armor, but it needs frequent hits to stay built up, so it suits fights where you keep attacking.
Diseased works more slowly. It drains an enemy's health over time, removes their food and water bonuses, and limits how quickly they can regain stamina. Armor reduces its damage, so it works best against lightly armored enemies and in longer fights.
Gouged also works over time and ignores armor. Each tick is weaker than bleed, but it can be combined with bleed on the same dagger. Acid Burn is another damage-over-time effect that ignores armor, which makes it a good match for heavily armored foes.
Crippled slows a target's movement, which matters when an enemy tries to run.
Sunder builds up with each hit, and each stack lets more of your damage get past armor. It's most useful against armored enemies, and a few dagger-style weapons carry it, though it shows up most on axes and maces.
Best Daggers for Each Fight
Heavily armored foes call for perks that get past armor. Heartsblood pairs bleed with gouging, so both kinds of damage keep getting through heavy armor. Rip and Tear is a chakram built around Sunder, which gets past more armor with each hit. Nimblefinger suits the same kind of fight, though its hits are weak against unarmored targets.
Long fights, and fights where you keep backing away, reward perks that keep damage going. Heartsblood is built for hit-and-back-away play, and Diseased Knives and Zhaibar Knives pair bleed with diseased to keep damage running while you kite. Diseased Spike offers the same pairing if you prefer punching daggers.
For enemies that try to run, The Shank is the pick, since cripple slows them with each hit.
Wild animals are a different case. Sunder does nothing against them, and armor-focused effects are wasted on creatures that wear no armor, so a damage-over-time perk like bleed is the better choice.
How to Get and Craft Daggers
Many daggers are crafted. Blacksmith Knowledge unlocks both the Furnace and the Blacksmith's Bench, and most melee weapons, including many daggers, are made at the bench. Some recipes call for steel bars, which you smelt in a Furnace using fuel, iron bars and an ingredient called Steel Fire. The better crafted daggers need more advanced knowledge, so you'll need to learn further branches to make them.
The strongest daggers are harder to come by, and many of them come from bosses rather than the bench. It helps to have a crafted dagger ready in the meantime, since a boss drop can take several tries.

Does Cripple really slow enemies down?
Yes. Each hit adds to the slow and extends how long it lasts, so keep attacking to keep a runner from getting away.
Are daggers good for PvP?
They can be, for players who prefer to stay mobile. Their short reach means you have to close the gap first, and against players with longer weapons, that gap is where you're most exposed.
Do daggers work against undead?
Yes, if you pick the right perk. Bleed can't affect undead, but Acid Burn can, and Black Claws carry it.
