What kinds of vehicles are in BeamNG.drive
The range is wide, and that's a big part of what the game offers. Road cars include compact hatchbacks, sedans, wagons, minivans and SUVs, while coupes, muscle cars and supercars cover the fast end. Off-road options run from buggies and side-by-side utility vehicles to ATVs built for rough ground.
Work vehicles are just as varied. You'll find box trucks, tankers, flatbeds and semi trucks alongside buses, a small Japanese pickup, a haul truck and a wheel loader built to work with that haul truck.
Each group feels different once you're behind the wheel. A small city car, a loaded truck and a buggy on rough ground all ask for different driving habits, so it helps to know what each one was built for before you start.
How the vehicle lineup is organized
Every vehicle belongs to an in-game brand, and each brand has its own group of entries. Each entry is a vehicle family or series, and a family can cover several body styles and engine setups. That means one entry might give you sedans and wagons, or pickups, SUVs and box trucks, all from the same line.
Each entry also comes with its own factory configurations, which are ready-made setups such as road, race or rally versions. Some names come back more than once. The Pessima has an older 1988–1991 generation and a newer 1996–2000 one, and each has its own entry, so the years tell you which one you're looking at.
How to spawn a vehicle in BeamNG.drive
On PC, open the menu with Esc and choose Vehicles to bring up the vehicle selector. Pick a vehicle, choose one of its factory configurations, and it appears in the world. The selector can also replace the car you're already in, so you can swap cars without clearing the old one first.
The radial menu has the same option under Manage and then Select. Whatever you pick becomes your starting point, and you can change its parts, tuning and paint afterward in Vehicle Config.
How to tune and paint a vehicle
Vehicle Config is where you change how a car is built. Press Esc and choose Vehicle Config from the top menu. The parts selector works like a tree, where some parts depend on others and only show up once you've picked the parts they need. Press Apply when you're done.
Tuning follows the parts you pick. Racing suspension and drivetrain parts unlock extra adjustments, while standard road parts have nothing to tune. You change these settings with sliders or by typing values into boxes, and the limits differ from car to car, even for the same part.
Paint works through three color selectors for each paint slot on the car. Some vehicles and paint designs only use a few of those colors, so changing the others has no effect.
How to save and reuse a custom build
Once a build is how you want it, save it. Type a name and click Save. The game takes a screenshot of the car to use as its thumbnail, so set your camera view before you save. The radial menu also has Save and Load options that store a vehicle in its current form.
Saved builds can be loaded from the Save & Load menu in Vehicle Config, or picked from the Vehicles selector. To see them in the selector and use them in scenarios, tick the Include custom .PC configurations box. They stay available in later sessions, in both free roam and scenarios.
It's best not to overwrite the original factory configurations, especially if you plan to share your files. Save your changes under a new name so the originals stay intact.
How to recover, reset and manage your vehicle
The radial menu's Manage options are the quickest way to handle the car you're driving. Home sends it back to its original spawn point, and Set home lets you choose a new one. Clone makes a copy of the car, and Remove takes it out of the world.
Insert recovers the vehicle, and R resets its physics. Those two keys are the quick fixes when a car ends up stuck in an odd position or behaving strangely.
Traffic is handled from the radial menu's AI section too. You can spawn a group of vehicles, or a group that includes police, to fill the road. Stop traffic halts the cars, and while they're stopped you can switch between them. Remove Traffic clears out every AI vehicle.
How vehicles drive differently
Vehicles handle very differently, so it pays to take your time learning each one. Some cars need careful handling, and harsh acceleration can make them skid. The Bolide is known for being hard to control, and the Wydra's unusual steering, chain drive and tires that act as suspension make for a difficult but unique drive.
Buses feel different from cars as well, and Bus mode routes can include sharp turns and steep slopes. Gearboxes vary too, and the lineup mixes manual, automatic, sequential and CVT setups. On a PC keyboard, the clutch is on Left Shift, X shifts up, Z shifts down, and Q toggles gearbox mode.
Which vehicles matter most in BeamNG.drive
Some vehicles stand out for the way people use them. The Grand Marshal is the iconic police car, and it's a popular base for stretch limousines. The Pessima, BX-Series, Covet, Lansdale and Sunburst are all popular with tuners, and the BX-Series is also a favorite among drifters. Builders also reach for the Moonhawk for drag builds, the Bluebuck for lowriders and stock cars, and the Nine for hot rods.
For speed, the Bolide and Scintilla are the supercars to look at. The Bolide is a classic wedge-shaped car from the 1980s, and the Scintilla is a modern V10 with active aero and an optional targa roof. The Bastion is a modern muscle sedan that's better for drag racing than for laps around a track.
Off-road fans have plenty to try. The Wydra is an amphibious ATV, the Dunekicker is a desert racing truck built from the ground up for that job, and the Rockbasher is a four-wheel-drive rock buggy. The Piccolina is a small city car, but it's a popular base for baja builds.
For heavy work, the Percheron is a modern French truck that can be built as a tractor or fitted out for hauling. The T-Series is a heavy-duty truck family with plenty of work setups. The DT40L is a full-size city bus that also runs on highways and safari trips, and it's famous for a record-breaking ramp jump. The HT-55 haul truck and WL-40 wheel loader are built to work together.
FAQ
Are there electric vehicles in BeamNG.drive?
Yes, but only a few families offer them. The FCV platform from Cherrier, which includes a Vivace hatchback, a Tograc crossover and an Ardente coupe, has electric versions alongside combustion engines. The SBR4 from Hirochi also comes with a powerful electric variant called eSBR, and the rest of the lineup runs on combustion engines.
Can vehicles get damaged in BeamNG.drive?
Yes. The default interface includes a Vehicle Damage app that shows the current state of different vehicle systems, and the messages area alerts you to things like car damage. You can add, remove or edit UI apps from the side menu if you want a different layout. The radial menu's Fun stuff section can also set a car on fire, deflate its tires or break every component.
Can I use community vehicles from mods?
On PC, yes, but they aren't part of the official roster, and the PS5 version has no mod support. Mods are added through the in-game mod repository and mod manager, which you can open from the side menu. Keep the number of active mods modest so the game's performance isn't affected, and make sure each mod matches your game version.
How do I switch between vehicles in BeamNG.drive?
Press Tab to move to the next vehicle and Ctrl + Tab to go back to the previous one. This is handy once you've cloned a car or spawned a group of traffic, since you can jump between them without opening a menu.
