What Trailers Do in BeamNG.drive

Each trailer is built around a particular job, and that job is the first thing to look at when you choose one. Some carry boxes, furniture, crates and planks, while others carry vehicles, logs, containers or liquids such as water, milk and diesel fuel. The Travel Trailer is the exception: it is a towable caravan meant for recreation and roleplay rather than hauling.

How to Spawn a Trailer in BeamNG.drive

To bring a trailer into your game, open the Side Menu and choose Vehicles. That section lets you change your current vehicle or spawn new ones, and it covers trailers and props as well.

Spawning simply means placing the trailer in your game world so you can use it. Once it's there, you connect it to your vehicle using the couplers.

How to Attach a Trailer in BeamNG.drive

Trailers connect through couplers, which are the connection points on the vehicle and the trailer. In freeroam on PC, press L to activate them, since L is the default key. Once they're active, colored spheres appear on the couplers so you can see which ones are ready.

Only couplers with matching colors can attach, so check that the colors line up before you drive up to it. Then move the vehicle so the two couplers can touch.

Couplers work a bit like magnets. When they're close enough, they pull toward each other and attach on their own, so you don't need to press anything else.

Hitch Types and Building Longer Combinations

Not every trailer connects the same way. Some semi-trailers can use a fifth-wheel connection, and some can use a pintle hitch, depending on the configuration. How a trailer is used depends on its hitch and how it's loaded.

Longer combinations are where the Trailer Dolly comes in. It's an unpowered link that joins a tractor or semi-trailer to more semi-trailers through a pintle hitch, so one tractor can pull a longer line of trailers.

Which BeamNG.drive Trailers Matter Most

If you only learn one cargo trailer, make it the Flatbed Trailer. It has one of the broadest load lists, from cargo boxes and steel coils to pipes, wood planks, marble blocks and haul-truck tires. That range makes it a good all-round pick for hauling jobs.

For liquids, the Tanker Trailer is the one to know. It carries water, milk, diesel fuel and petroleum, so it covers a wide range of liquids from water to fuel.

The European Truck Trailers arrived in version 0.40 to complement the Percheron, and the modular range includes platform and insulated-box bodies as well as fuel and foodstuffs tankers. It covers both semi and rigid trailers, so it suits more than one kind of build.

How Trailer Weight and Load Work

A trailer's weight and value come as a range rather than one fixed figure. The spread is wide: small utility trailers run from a few hundred kilograms up to a few thousand, while the biggest containers and tankers run far heavier.

Load matters too. Many trailers let you choose what they carry, such as water or fuel for a tanker, or boxes and coils for a flatbed, and that choice is part of the setup you're towing.
