Story Mode missions move John Marston from the opening in New Austin through the Mexico and West Elizabeth arcs and into the Beecher’s Hope epilogue. Territory, sequence, mission giver, and direct gate details make the branching campaign easier to follow without treating every marker as a rigid next step.

Scope
This covers the base single-player Story Mode campaign in Red Dead Redemption (2010), from the opening through the Beecher’s Hope epilogue. It uses one shared campaign scope for the original PS3 and Xbox 360 release and later single-player ports and remaster. Undead Nightmare, its story missions, DLC or GOTY-only mission content, bonus content, Red Dead Online, legacy multiplayer and co-op, Stranger missions including Remember My Family, jobs, challenges, and ambient activities stay outside this boundary.
Route and gates
The sequence is a stable reference order, not a mandatory play order. Mission-giver branches can become available in parallel, and territory is the display grouping rather than a guarantee that every objective stays inside that region. Direct gate / unlock notes describe the practical prerequisite, not a complete dependency graph. The post-game label marks the epilogue and finale arc after the federal campaign and before the ending mission. Permanent missability is phrased conservatively because a failed mission or temporarily unavailable branch can still require a retry or a return later.
Mexico gate notes
- My Sister’s Keeper: the practical gate shown is Landon Ricketts Rides Again plus Civilization, at Any Price. An alternate practical gate is The Mexican Wagon Train plus Civilization, at Any Price.
- The Gates of El Presidio: the primary walkthrough gate is The Great Mexican Train Robbery. Alternate practical references list Captain De Santa’s Downfall, and some mission trees also include The Mexican Wagon Train.
These are alternate gate conventions, not extra missions or a second required sequence.
Release format
The first release is text-only. No mission, territory, or finale artwork is attached, so the useful details are the names, objectives, gates, characters, statuses, and spoiler labels.
FAQ
Are the sequence numbers a strict play order?
No. New Austin and later territory branches can appear in parallel. Use the direct gate / unlock note with each mission instead of assuming the next number is the next available marker.
Are territory labels exact mission locations?
No. They are the campaign’s display groupings, and a mission can send you beyond the territory named beside it.
Why do two Mexico missions show alternate gates?
My Sister’s Keeper can be tied to Landon Ricketts Rides Again and Civilization, at Any Price, or to The Mexican Wagon Train and Civilization, at Any Price. The Gates of El Presidio is tied directly to The Great Mexican Train Robbery in the primary route, while Captain De Santa’s Downfall and, in some mission trees, The Mexican Wagon Train are alternate practical references. They do not add missions.
Is Remember My Family part of the Story Mode mission scope?
No. It is a Stranger mission that appears after the campaign and remains separate from the named Story Mode mission scope.
Does the first release include mission images?
No. It is text-only, with no mission, territory, or finale artwork attached.
