Trinkets and talismans are passive perks, and each effect starts as soon as you own the item. Most come from a Fence craft that needs a legendary animal part, so the hunt is usually the real work. Pick based on what you do most: fights, bow hunting, horse riding or making money.
How to use this collection
Fence price is what the Fence charges to craft the item once you bring every ingredient. Availability is the earliest point in Story Mode where you can get it. Chapter 2+ means the item opens once you reach Chapter 2.

Best Trinkets and Talismans by What You Do
Most of these give a 10% bonus, so the bigger numbers stand out. Start with the stat you run out of most.
| If you mostly... | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Get into fights | Owl Feather Trinket | Health, Stamina and Dead Eye Core drain 15% slower, the biggest core saver of the lot. It's a Chapter 6 mission reward, so it arrives late. |
| Hunt with a bow | Hawk Talon Trinket or Ancient Arrowhead | Hawk Talon drains stamina 30% slower while you draw. Ancient Arrowhead doubles how long stamina lasts when you use a bow. |
| Ride horses | Boar Tusk Talisman | Horse Health and Stamina Cores drain 10% slower. Iguana Scale Trinket cuts damage taken on horseback by 10%, but it's edition-only. |
| Use weapons hard | Raven Claw Talisman | Weapons degrade 20% slower, double Beaver Tooth's 10%. |
| Make money | Elk Antler Trinket | Looted cash is worth 10% more. Buck Antler Trinket lets skinned animal parts come out at up to the quality the animal spawned with. |
| Level up | Coyote Fang Trinket or Moose Antler Trinket | Coyote Fang adds 10% to Dead Eye XP and Moose Antler adds 10% to Health XP. Both open in Chapter 2 or later. |
If you want Core savings early, Bear Claw Talisman (Health) and Bison Horn Talisman (Stamina) open after "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego" in Chapter 2, and each cuts its Core drain by 10%. Alligator Tooth Talisman covers Dead Eye and opens after "That's Murfree Country" in Chapter 6. Owl Feather hits Health, Stamina and Dead Eye at 15%, but it's late too.
Fence Craft Costs and Legendary Parts
Most Fence crafts need a legendary animal part. Hunt the animal, then bring that part and the rest of the ingredients to a Fence. The Fence only makes the craft once you have every ingredient, so don't get halfway there. Most of the early animal crafts open after "Exit Pursued by a Bruised Ego" in Chapter 2.
Several recipes need jewelry, like gold earrings and silver bracelets. That loot is random, so hold onto each earring and bracelet you find until you know which craft it's for.
Some ingredients have their own routes. The Alligator Tooth Talisman's Vintage Civil War Handcuffs come from mailing Phineas Ramsbottom a full set of cigarette cards. The Bear Claw Talisman's Quartz Chunk comes from mailing Deborah MacGuiness the location of a dinosaur bone. The legendary animal hunts cover where each animal shows up. For the gear around all this, see equipment.
Pickups You Can Grab Without Crafting
Cat Eye, Hawk Talon and Shark Tooth need no craft. You find them in a lockbox or at a campsite from Chapter 2 on, so the only cost is the detour.
Ancient Arrowhead and the Dreamcatchers
Ancient Arrowhead is the reward for the Dreamcatcher hunt. Once you've found every Dreamcatcher, follow the mark it reveals to the cave behind the waterfall at Elysian Pool. The Arrowhead is inside.
What You Can Miss or Lock Out
- Lion's Paw Trinket is missable. In Chapter 3's "He's British, of Course IV," take the paw from the dead lion at Emerald Ranch before you leave or head back to Margaret. Then craft it at a Fence for $19.75.
- Owl Feather Trinket is missable. In the Chapter 6 mission "Archeology for Beginners," recover Rains Fall's sacred artifacts from the soldiers' camp and return them without killing any soldiers. One trigger-happy moment and you miss it.
- Eagle Talon Talisman and Iguana Scale Trinket are edition bonuses. Only Special and Ultimate Edition owners can claim them.
- Panther's Eye Trinket needs Master Hunter Rank 9. Reach that rank first, then hunt the Legendary Giaguaro Panther west of Shady Belle.
- Spoiler: some items are Epilogue unlocks. Cougar Fang, Pronghorn Horn, Tatanka Bison Horn and Turtle Shell are available in New Austin during the Epilogue. Turtle Shell is in a lockbox beneath the stairs at Gaptooth Breach. Crow Beak comes from the Elemental Trail treasure hunt in the Epilogue.
Everything else has no missable condition, so once an item opens, you can take your time.
