Some Story Mode trophies lock for good if you miss their chapter window, so those are the ones to watch. Breaking and Entering is high risk because some homestead stashes can become unavailable. The PlayStation Platinum also needs every other trophy, Red Dead Online ones included.

Story Mode
Many of these trigger on their own as the campaign moves forward. The handful with chapter windows are where the missable label matters, so plan those first.
Red Dead Online
Red Dead Online is its own mode, with separate progress.
Both modes
Legend of the West is the PlayStation Platinum, so Steam has no matching award. It's the last one you earn, after everything else in both modes.
- Mode shows Story Mode, Red Dead Online or Both modes.
- Missable says whether the award can lock for good. Yes means it locks when its window closes. High risk means some of its targets can disappear, so don't leave it for late in the story. No means that award has no story deadline.
- Trophy grade is the PlayStation trophy tier, from Bronze to Platinum. Steam doesn't use grades.
- Requirement is the award's own wording. Tip is the quickest way to earn it.
A No covers only that one award. Missing a Yes award means that save can't reach the Platinum.
RDR2 Missable Trophies and Chapter Deadlines
Some Story awards only work inside a window.
- Errand Boy: Visit camp during the day in Chapters 2 to 4, and deliver five requests before Chapter 4 ends.
- Friends With Benefits: Finish a companion activity in each of Chapters 2, 3 and 4. Save manually at the start of each chapter so you can roll back to it if you miss one.
- Give to the Poor: Before Chapter 5, donate your own cash or valuables to the gang tithing box. Donations from gang members don't count.
- Lending a Hand: All optional Honor missions have to be finished in the same playthrough where they appear. Honor 4 is needed for an optional Chapter 6 mission, so reach it before you start that one. Keep chapter saves so you can go back for one you missed.
- Breaking and Entering (High risk): Recover the stash from four homesteads, ideally in Chapter 2 or 3. Some homesteads can become unavailable, so don't leave this one until late in the story.
RDR2 Trophy Unlocks by Chapter
- Chapter 1: Back in the Mud and Just a Scratch come from the opening missions. Keep following the story and both will land.
- Chapter 2: To Greener Pastures unlocks when the chapter ends. The Chapter 2 companion activity and optional Honor missions aren't needed for it, but they count toward Friends With Benefits and Lending a Hand, so do them before you move on.
- Chapter 3: Settling Feuds comes with the Chapter 3 transition. Friends With Benefits and Errand Boy both still have their windows open here.
- Chapter 4: Washed Ashore comes with the end of the chapter. Artificial Intelligence runs through a side thread: start it during the day, do the nighttime follow-up, then return to the lab after two in-game days.
- Chapter 5: No Traitors unlocks when the Chapter 5 story missions finish. Give to the Poor has to be done before this chapter, so don't leave it for later.
The Hardest RDR2 Trophies: 100%, Animals, Gold Medals and Collectibles
Best in the West
Best in the West wants 100% in the game's own progress tally, so the work spreads across the whole game rather than one mission. Open Pause > Progress > Total Completion to see which categories still need work.
Zoologist and Skin Deep
Both sound like every animal in the game, but each one leaves some out. Zoologist skips Legendary Animals and the animals that only live on the islands, and you only need the required animals and subspecies on the main map. Skin Deep only counts skinnable animals in the Compendium and skips the Guarma-exclusive species. Neither has a permanent deadline, so you can chip away at them between story missions.
Gold Rush and Gold Medals
Gold Rush needs 70 Gold Medals earned in Story missions. Progress adds up across missions, so you can get there over several replays. Replay only the missions where you're still short on Gold Medal tasks instead of running the whole story again.
Collector's Item
Collector's Item needs you to finish one Collectable strand, and the Rock Carving strand is the compact option. You don't need to finish every collectible set. If you want the full Dinosaur Bones or Cigarette Cards sets, start with Dinosaur Bones or Cigarette Cards.
Red Dead Online Awards
The Online awards cover Free Roam, Series matches, rank, posses, horses, crafting, camp upgrades and a few others. Several overlap: Free Roam missions, Series matches and the Online story all add XP, so one session can push rank and a few other goals at once. The Awards menu in Online tracks many of them, so check it when you're not sure how far along you are.
Getting Started at Rank 10 is the first milestone. Notorious at Rank 50 is the long one, and it's the only Gold trophy in the Online group, so it's the award to plan for.
Mistakes That Cost Awards
- Starting isn't finishing. Western Stranger needs full strands from beginning to end, and Series Major needs the match finished. Joining one isn't enough.
- Repeats count differently. Self Sufficient needs 30 different items, so crafting the same one again adds nothing. Master Craftsman does count repeat crafts, but it skips ammo, which is what Non-Regulation is for.
Spoilers: The Final Chapters and Epilogue
Spoilers from here on. Redemption unlocks on the story path at the end of Chapter 6. Third Time Lucky unlocks when you complete 'Goodbye, Dear Friend' in Chapter 6. Endless Summer needs both Epilogue parts, and Cowboy Builder sits on the Epilogue story path. Paying Respects waits until after the story, when every grave opens and you can visit them in any order; Red Dead Redemption 2 Graves has each location. Leave these for last, since they only come near the end.
FAQ
Is Best in the West the same as the Platinum?
No. Best in the West is the game's 100% award, and it's a Gold trophy on PlayStation. The Platinum is a separate goal.
Do I need Red Dead Online for the Story awards?
No. The Story Mode awards come from the campaign and its side activities. Red Dead Online comes with the game, so you can play it for the Online awards, and the Platinum needs those Online trophies too.
Is any DLC needed?
No. Every award here comes from the base game or Red Dead Online, and Legend of the West doesn't need DLC.
