Every gang in Red Dead Redemption 2 Story Mode gets logged in the Compendium the first time you run into one of its members. No binocular Study needed. Each gang works its own turf, so knowing where it roams and which hideouts it holds saves a lot of riding around.
How to use this collection
Territory is the region each gang mainly roams. Where found gives landmarks and typical encounter spots. A gang with no fixed hideout roams instead. Labels in parentheses mark post-launch Story Mode additions and Special or Ultimate Edition hideouts. Sections show the earliest story phase where each gang is guaranteed to show up.

How to Log a Gang in the Compendium
The story puts every gang in your path sooner or later, so no entry needs a special hunt.
Encounter each enemy gang to meet the gang-discovery requirement for 100% completion. A gang's progress bar tracks optional extras like camps, hideouts, ambushes, unique encounters, gang member kills and bounties. Chase those if you want a full bar, but they aren't part of the 100% requirement.
The Gang Hideouts task is a separate completion task, so plan for it alongside the gang entries.
Main Story Gangs and Where to Find Them
The Lemoyne Raiders hold Shady Belle, and their camps and ambushes run across southern and western Lemoyne. If you're hunting them, start in Bayou Nwa or Scarlett Meadows.
The O'Driscoll Boys are the gang to log early, since they turn up from the opening chapters. Start around Six Point Cabin, then ride toward Big Valley for their camps there.
The Murfree Brood stay out of sight in the caves around Roanoke Ridge. Check Beaver Hollow first, then the woods west of Annesburg.
For the missions tied to these gangs, see the Red Dead Redemption 2 story missions.
Epilogue Gangs and Their Turf (Spoilers)
This part covers gangs from the epilogue.
The Skinner Brothers' camps and ambushes move around, so keep moving through Tall Trees instead of waiting at one spot.
Once the epilogue starts, the Laramie Gang holds Hanging Dog Ranch in Big Valley. The O'Driscolls used that ranch earlier in the story.
Del Lobos hold more hideouts than any other gang, so plan a route instead of a single stop.
Gang Location Mistakes (Epilogue Spoilers)
- Hunting for a Skinner Brothers hideout. The gang roams, so there's no base to find.
- Looking for O'Driscoll Boys at Hanging Dog Ranch after the epilogue starts.
- Waiting for Del Lobos to show up in the epilogue. An optional gunslinger strand can bring them in earlier.
FAQ
Do Red Dead Online gangs count?
No. Red Dead Online gangs, hideouts and encounters are separate from the Story Mode Compendium.
Which groups don't count?
Your own Van der Linde gang doesn't count, and neither do hostile groups such as the Night Folk, the Foreman Brothers, the Anderson Boys, the Watson Boys, Bronte/Martelli's Mob, the Braithwaites, the Grays, the Pinkertons and the Chelonians. The Night Folk and Pinkertons can feel like gangs when they attack, but they don't get Compendium entries.
How do I get the Twin Rocks hideout?
Twin Rocks comes with the Special and Ultimate Editions, so a standard copy won't have it.
