Lester's Story Mode heist board is where you hire a gunman, and on some jobs a driver and a hacker. Each specialist takes a fixed cut of the net take, and their starting skill changes how loot, getaways, and hacks play out.

The Covert Bureau Raid and the Obvious Big Score have no hacker. Rickie Lukens needs Michael's phone call after Friend Request. Hackers work remotely, so they cannot become scripted casualties.

Which jobs hire crew
Lester's planning board is used for The Jewel Store Job, The Paleto Score, The Bureau Raid, and The Big Score. The Merryweather Heist and Blitz Play keep their own helpers, so those finales never open a gunman, driver, or hacker slot.
Some approaches skip a seat or hire two gunmen or two drivers. A specialist you already unlocked can still be missing from a later board.
Unlocks and first usable heists
Most specialists appear on the first Jewel Store board. A few wait on a random event, a phone call, or a later job.
- Packie McReary: after Pulling Favors, rescue him from the Dollar Pills robbery near Franklin's Clinton Avenue house.
- Taliana Martinez: after Mr. Philips, help her at the car crash in the median of the freeway east of Paleto Bay.
- Chef: take Trevor's phone contact after Blitz Play.
- Rickie Lukens: take Michael's phone call after Friend Request. He can call again after The Paleto Score or The Bureau Raid if you have not hired him yet.
The earliest-heist label is the first board that can actually select that person, not the first time you can meet them in the world.
Skill, cuts, and survival
Skill is the starting quality Lester uses for scripted events: Good, Mediocre, or Poor. Cut is that person's share of the Story Mode net take. Surviving a successful heist raises skill bars by about 25% and can move a Poor or Mediocre hacker, or a Poor driver, up one quality step for later scripts. The cut stays the same.
Poor gunmen do not get that loot-drop upgrade. Completing The Bureau Raid can raise their combat stats, but later jewelry and gold scripts still treat them as Poor.
The board is not grading on a curve. A cheap cut stays cheap even after someone lives through the finale.
Scripted casualties
Some Poor gunmen crash, get pinned, or die as part of the heist script. Inexperienced Karim Denz can crash the Obvious Big Score helicopter or get arrested on the Subtle approach. Those events cost 1.5 times their hire cut.
If someone dies outside a scripted event, the mission fails and you restart. That restart is not a heist casualty.
The Covert Bureau Raid escape can explode unless both gunmen are Good. A Poor gunman only survives that blast as Gunman 1 if the other hire is also Poor.
Common mistakes
- Do not mix GTA Online Diamond Casino or Cayo Perico cuts with these Story Mode percentages.
- Unlocking a driver before The Paleto Score does not add a driver seat to Paleto.
- Mission-failure deaths are restarts. They do not charge the 1.5x casualty expense.
FAQ
Does this include GTA Online heist crew?
No. These are Story Mode specialists from Lester's planning board. Diamond Casino and Cayo Perico crew, cuts, and unlock paths stay out.
Does surviving a heist raise a crew member's cut?
No. Surviving a successful heist can improve later scripts for a driver or hacker, and it can raise skill bars by about 25%. The percentage they take stays the same.
Do Poor gunmen get better at later heists?
Completing The Bureau Raid can raise their combat stats, but later loot-drop scripts still treat them as Poor. Their cut does not change.
Why is Taliana Martinez first usable on The Bureau Raid?
You can rescue her after Mr. Philips, before The Paleto Score. Paleto has no driver slot, so the first board that can hire her is The Bureau Raid.
What is the difference between a scripted casualty and a mission failure?
A scripted death, arrest, or leave-behind charges 1.5 times that person's hire cut. If they die outside a scripted event, the mission fails and you restart instead.
Why does Rickie Lukens have two Jewel Store alarm times?
He holds the alarm for 50 seconds in patched versions and 30 seconds on the original console release.
