You move through huge crowds of enemies and cut them down with fast combos in Dynasty Warriors, a hack-and-slash action series. The battles come from Romance of the Three Kingdoms, a classic Chinese novel about rival warlords competing to rule China. The result is a game built around scale, with one hero facing a sea of soldiers.
A typical session starts when you pick a general and enter a stage, which recreates one of those battles. Your goal is usually to defeat the enemy commander while keeping your own commander alive, and the stage is packed with hundreds of soldiers and stronger officers in your way. As you deal and take damage, a meter called the Musou gauge fills up, and once it is full you can unleash a powerful special attack to clear a path.
The bigger goal is the story. In Musou Mode, you guide one character through linked battles toward uniting China, gaining stats, weapons and items along the way and unlocking new characters to play.
The series has several games. Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered came out October 1, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam, and it includes the Xtreme Legends expansion. Dynasty Warriors: Origins came out on January 17, 2025.

Dynasty Warriors gameplay tips
- Save your Musou for big crowds and tough officers. The gauge refills during the fight, so spending it on two or three soldiers can leave you without it when a real threat shows up.
- Clear ordinary soldiers with your wide attacks. Sweeping attacks take down groups of regular troops quickly, and they leave your Musou gauge untouched for the harder fights.
- Equip your strongest weapon before each stage (Dynasty Warriors 3). Weapons raise your stats, and each higher level adds one more attack to your combo. That means more damage before a combo ends, which helps when you're surrounded.
