Grow a Garden Moon Egg Guide: Pets, How to Get Them, and Abilities

Updated on August 5, 2026 (about 5 hours ago)

The Harvest Moon Moon Egg is a Legendary egg that hatches one of four event pets after 4 hours. It landed on August 1, 2026 with the Harvest Moon Event. Do not mix it up with the older Night Egg from Lunar Glow or Blood Moon: different egg, different pets, different event.

How to get Moon Eggs in Grow a Garden

Buy from the Moon Event Shop

The Moon Event Shop restocks every 15 minutes. That is where most players pick up standard Moon Eggs.

  1. Farm Moon Coins (see below) or keep Robux ready.
  2. Open the Moon Event Shop while Harvest Moon is live.
  3. Buy a Moon Egg when it appears. The event master shop table lists 50 Moon Coins or 149 Robux, an 8.33% restock chance, and 1 to 2 stock per restock.
  4. Equip the egg, place it in your garden, wait 4 hours, then hold E to hatch.

The dedicated Moon Egg wiki line still lists 40 Moon Coins and a 5% restock rate. That may reflect an earlier shop value. If your shop shows a different price, trust what you see in game.

Earn Moon Coins for shop eggs

Moon Coins come from a short Harvest Moon loop:

  1. Place 10 unfavorited fruits on Moon Pedestals to summon 10 minutes of Harvest Moon weather.
  2. Grow crops during that weather so they can roll the Moonbeam mutation.
  3. Sell Moonbeam fruit at the Moon Sell Stand for Moon Coins.

Favorited fruits cannot be sacrificed on pedestals. Keep a separate stack of fodder fruit for farming runs.

Moon Team Event eggs (free route)

You can also earn Moon Eggs without spending every coin. The Moon Team Event track pays 3 Moon Eggs at each of these stages:

StagePoints neededMoon Eggs
13,5003
418,0003
622,5003

That is 9 Moon Eggs total on the full team track. Handy when the shop keeps dodging restocks.

Premium Moon Egg (Robux fast hatch)

The Premium Moon Egg from the Limited Time Shop hatches in 30 seconds instead of 4 hours. Robux bundles cost 149, 429, 1,249, or 4,999. Same four pets as the standard egg, with tiny odds shifts (Opposum drops from 55% to 54% on premium). Less waiting, more Robux.

Vampire Squid also sits in the Moon Event Shop for 120 Moon Coins, but it is a direct shop pet, not a Moon Egg hatch.

All Moon Egg pets, hatch chances, and abilities

Every standard Moon Egg rolls from the same four-pet pool. Most hatches land on Opposum or Lunar Moth (90% combined). Moon Dragon is the 0.5% chase hatch, roughly 1 in 200.

Ability descriptions in game do not list exact trigger intervals or cooldown seconds. Treat Moonsong, Selenic Steed, and Draconis Luna as occasional effects, not on-demand buttons.

Opposum is the common hatch. Night Support shaves time off Night pet cooldowns after they finish an ability. Fine if you already run a Night team, underwhelming as your only pet.

Lunar Moth is the practical pick for everyday farming. Moonsong keeps nearby crops moving and feeds nearby pets while it sings. One hatch that helps the whole garden.

Night Horse matters when Harvest Moon weather is off. Selenic Steed applies Moonbeam to random fruits by sacrificing another fruit, so you can keep Moonbeam sales going between moons.

Moon Dragon is the prismatic long shot. Draconis Luna scales with how many Night-type pets you own and can spike pet levels through fruit mutations. Nice when it hits, not worth banking on.

FAQ

Q.

Is the Moon Egg the same as the Night Egg in Grow a Garden?

No. The Moon Egg is the Legendary Harvest Moon egg added August 1, 2026. The Night Egg is an older Lunar Glow and Blood Moon egg with a different pet pool.

Q.

How long does a Moon Egg take to hatch?

A standard Moon Egg takes 4 hours after you place it in your garden. Premium Moon Eggs from the Limited Time Shop hatch in 30 seconds.

Q.

What is the rarest Moon Egg pet?

Moon Dragon at 0.5% hatch chance. Opposum is the most common at 55%.

Q.

Is the Premium Moon Egg worth it?

Only if you want the same four pets without a 4-hour wait. Premium eggs cost more Robux and shift odds slightly, but they do not add new pets to the pool.
