The Helping Happy update adds a playable Halloween recovery event to 99 Nights in the Forest. Happy returns on October 3, 2026, but the event is more than a character visit: you must search the changing map for six body parts, carry them back to camp one at a time, and finish a Ram encounter before the quest is complete.
The same update also changes everyday runs with navigation improvements, new building and planting options, item fixes, and smaller interaction changes. Here is how to start the event, level Happy's Scythe, complete every objective, earn the badge rewards, and understand the other patch notes. For the current event schedule, check the Helping Happy event listing.
What is the Helping Happy update in 99 Nights in the Forest?
Helping Happy is a time-limited Halloween event that runs inside the normal survival loop. Happy appears on the map when a run loads, and his quest sends you back into the forest to recover the pieces he needs for his body. The locations change between runs, so you should follow the structure or enemy tied to each piece instead of memorizing another player's coordinates.
The event launched on October 3, 2026. There is no listed class, level, or previous-quest requirement for starting the event. You do need enough food and wood for repeated trips, a way to handle the Alpha Wolf and Cultist encounters, and room in your plans for the eight-pumpkin Torso objective.
How to start Helping Happy and level the Scythe
When the run loads, look for Happy's event icon on the map. Interact with him to start the scene, then pick up Happy's Scythe near him before you begin searching.

The Scythe levels as you use it on valid targets such as spider sacks, cobwebs, wolves, and other enemies. Some web barriers block deeper body-part areas, so Scythe progress can open routes as you search. Clearing webs also works toward the Sweeping badge, while reaching the Scythe's maximum level works toward Reaping.
You do not need to know a precise level cap or XP rate to use the item well. Clear safe webs during your normal route, then return to web barriers once the Scythe can cut them.
How to find and return Happy's six body parts
Happy's six body parts can appear in different places from one run to another, but each piece has a consistent target type. Use the map to expand your search area, then use the landmark or enemy in the table as your clue.

| Body part | Where to search | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Right Leg | Windmill | Find the windmill, collect the leg, and carry it back to the stake or scarecrow near camp. |
| Left Leg | Barn | Search the barn, collect the leg, and return it to camp. |
| Left Arm | Stone-brick structure | Search inside the structure. Clear web barriers when they block the route, then carry the arm back. |
| Right Arm | Alpha Wolf | Defeat the Alpha Wolf carrying the arm, collect the drop, and return it to camp. |
| Hat | Cultist | Defeat the Cultist wearing the Hat, collect it, and return it to camp. |
| Torso | Pumpkin farm and cart | Harvest eight pumpkins and load them onto the cart. Collect the Torso the cart releases, then carry it back. |
You must carry each recovered piece manually, one at a time. That return trip is why food and wood matter. Keep the camp supplied while you search, and do not assume the event will fit into a single safe night.
The target's position can change, so a missing windmill or barn at the spot shown in a screenshot does not mean the event failed. Search for the correct structure or enemy type in the part of the map your run has opened.
How to finish the Happy rebuild after returning all six parts
Returning the six pieces does not finish Helping Happy. Once Happy is reassembled, the Ram knocks his pumpkin head away again. You must wait for the Ram at night and lure it into a solid object, such as a tree or stone structure.
The collision frees the head. Pick it up, take it back to Happy's stake, and return it to complete the rebuild. If the quest seems stuck after the sixth body part, this night-time Ram step is the missing action.
Helping Happy badges and Happy's Cart
The event has three badge goals. They cover separate parts of the event, so you can work on Scythe progress while searching for body parts.

| Badge | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Reaping | Reach the maximum Happy's Scythe level. |
| Strawcraft | Help reassemble Happy. |
| Sweeping | Destroy 200 webs with Happy's Scythe. |
Earn all three badges to unlock Happy's Cart furniture. The reward unlock is clear, but whether the Cart remains permanently available is not, so this guide does not make a permanence claim.
Which 99 Nights in the Forest patch-note changes matter most?
The update also includes smaller changes that affect normal runs. The notes below keep each change tied to the thing you will notice in play.
Event and survival interactions
| Change | What you will notice |
|---|---|
| Happy returns | The Halloween preparation quest is available through Happy's event interaction. |
| Basketball | You must shoot the ball through the hoop. You can no longer drag it for a free score. |
| Entity footsteps | Entities no longer have silent footsteps, so you can hear movement that was previously silent. |
| Global sounds | Some sounds no longer play as global audio across the map. |
| Wet logs | Wet logs have a less blue appearance. |
Bug fixes and item behavior
| Change | What you will notice |
|---|---|
| Mouse lock | The issue that could break mouse lock was fixed. |
| MREs and the Crock Pot | Items such as MREs can now be used in the Crock Pot. |
Navigation and map feedback
| Change | What you will notice |
|---|---|
| Compass | The compass shows trinkets and more shopkeepers. |
| Pings | Pings were added to many objects, giving you more feedback while searching and coordinating. |
| Visited structures | Structures without chests update their map icons after you visit them. |
| Frog whirlpool | The teleport behavior at the bottom of the frog whirlpool was corrected. |
| Player map icons | Tap a player's icon on the map to see that player's avatar. |
Building, planting, and player settings
| Change | What you will notice |
|---|---|
| Snowy trees | You can plant snowy trees. |
| Hammer controls | The Hammer can disable seats on furniture and move teleporters in your base. |
| Woman package | New armor was added for the Woman package. |
| Mobile buttons | The mobile button setting can be resized in the lobby. |
The biggest new task is still Helping Happy. The other notes change movement audio, map feedback, building controls, and item use during ordinary runs.
What should you do first in the Helping Happy update?
Start the run with a return trip in mind. Interact with Happy, take the Scythe, and clear safe webs as you travel so its progression supports both blocked routes and the Sweeping badge.
Open more of the map before committing to a distant search, and use pings or visited structure icons to keep track of what you have checked. Pack food and wood because every part has to come back to camp by hand. If you reach a landmark without its part, keep searching the generated map rather than relying on a fixed coordinate.
Prepare for the Alpha Wolf and Cultist before you chase their pieces, and save enough time and supplies for the eight-pumpkin cart task. After all six returns, plan for the night-time Ram collision. That final head recovery is what turns the body-part search into a completed Helping Happy quest.
