Ravenswatch is a roguelike action game where each run starts fresh with new maps and random upgrades. You defend the dreamlike realm of Reverie from the Nightmare, a dark force that twists heroes and landscapes into darker versions. Heroes are the playable characters, drawn from fairy tales, folklore and classic stories, and each one fights in its own way. The roster spans the base game and its free and paid DLC packs.

What Are Ravenswatch Heroes?
Your hero is the character you control from the start of a run until it ends. Each one brings its own weapons, abilities and fighting style, so the same run can play out very differently depending on who you pick. Since maps and upgrades change every run, your hero is the steady part you can plan around.
How Heroes Level Up in Ravenswatch
Inside a run, heroes earn experience from fights and objectives, and each level lets you pick a new talent. The talent pool is large enough that the same hero can grow in very different directions.
Rank is a separate track that builds up over time. Playing a hero raises their rank, up to rank 10, and that unlocks more talents and their memoirs, the backstory of each hero, for later runs. Rank doesn't carry combat power into the next run, though, so it widens your choices rather than making your hero stronger from the start.
How to Unlock Heroes
Scarlet, The Pied Piper, Beowulf and The Snow Queen are open from the start. The other base game heroes each open by clearing Chapter 1 with one of the starters. Clearing it with Scarlet opens Aladdin, clearing it with The Pied Piper opens Melusine, clearing it with Beowulf opens Geppetto, and clearing it with The Snow Queen opens Sun Wukong.
Carmilla is the last to open, and she unlocks once you clear Chapter 1 with Aladdin, Melusine, Geppetto or Sun Wukong. Each unlock depends on an earlier hero, so playing the starters is the way to reach the rest of the base game roster.
Free and Paid DLC Heroes
The Romeo & Juliet pack is free. It adds Romeo, a fast swordfighter who parries attacks, and Juliet, who fights from range with a pistol. They come in the same free download, so the pack costs nothing to add to your roster.
Merlin and Kintarō are paid heroes. Kintarō rides a bear named Kuma and switches between mounted and dismounted fighting.
Choosing the Right Hero for You
If you are new, start with one of the starters, so you can learn the basics before you chase the others. After that, choose by how you like to fight. Close-range heroes suit players who like to stay in the middle of the action, long-range heroes suit those who prefer to keep their distance, and companion heroes suit anyone who likes a pet or a swarm fighting beside them. Updates keep reshaping talents, so trying a few heroes is still the best way to find one you enjoy.
