In Ravenswatch, you fight back the nightmares spreading through the realm of Reverie. It's a top-down action roguelike from Passtech Games, the studio behind Curse of the Dead Gods. You play as heroes from fairy tales and legends, such as Scarlet, the Pied Piper, Beowulf and the Snow Queen. You can go it alone or team up with friends online.
Each run moves through three chapters, Dark Hills, Storm Island and Avalon, always in that same order, and each chapter's map is randomly generated, so no two runs feel quite the same. You grow stronger by finishing objectives, which earn experience, and each level lets you choose a new talent, while magical objects you find add special effects along the way. The clock never stops, though, and with only three days and three nights to build up before the chapter boss, you can't do everything. Choosing which objectives to finish, and in what order, is what decides how strong you are when the boss arrives.
Each chapter ends with a boss fight, and beating it moves you on to the next chapter. If a run ends, you start again from the first chapter, but the heroes you've unlocked stay unlocked. Finishing the first chapter with one of the starting heroes opens up more of the roster. Beating the game unlocks tougher difficulty levels for players who want more of a challenge.

Heroes
Heroes are the playable characters in Ravenswatch, drawn from fairy tales, folklore and classic stories. Scarlet, The Pied Piper, Beowulf and The Snow Queen start unlocked, and the rest of the base game opens by clearing Chapter 1 with earlier heroes. Romeo and Juliet come in the free Romeo & Juliet pack, while Merlin and Kintarō are paid heroes. Each hero grows during a run by earning experience and picking talents, and playing a hero raises their rank, which unlocks more talents and memoirs for later runs.
Magical Objects
Magical Objects are power-ups you collect during runs in Ravenswatch. They come in rarity tiers from common to cursed. Common, rare and epic objects come from chests, wells sell them for Dream Shards, legendary objects come from optional quests, and cursed objects come from optional boss shrines. Each one changes your hero's stats or abilities, and common, rare and epic objects also gain a collection bonus once you gather enough copies.
Collectibles
Melodies
Melodies are team-wide bonuses in Ravenswatch, added with the free Songs of Thieves update. Players find Magical Harps in Thieves' Stashes and Reverie, and collecting from one gives notes used to rebuild a Melody during a run. Each Melody gives the whole group an effect for that run, such as healing, extra damage, or faster movement.
Ravenswatch gameplay tips
- Try a few heroes before you settle on one. Each hero has a different trait. Beowulf charges a Wyrm that powers up his next Power, Special or Defense ability, while Scarlet turns into a werewolf at nightfall and returns to human form at dawn. Trying a few shows you which style suits you.
- Share the revives with your party. Raven's Feathers are one pool shared by the whole party, and each one can bring a fallen hero back. Teammates can also pick up a downed hero for free if they reach them in time, so staying close to your group helps save feathers.
- Buy more feathers at an altar before you run low. Altars sell extra Raven's Feathers, so look for one when your supply starts to shrink. Once the feathers are gone, a hero who falls and isn't rescued in time cannot come back.
- Clear a difficulty without modifiers to unlock the next one. Adventure is the starting difficulty, and Twilight, Darkness and Nightmare each unlock after the one before. Runs that use Custom Mode modifiers don't count toward an unlock, so play a standard run when you want to move up.
