Raft is a survival game where you start on a small raft in the open ocean and have to gather, build and stay alive. The animals share that world with you, and they fall into three groups. Hostile animals, including the Shark, attack when you get too close, bosses guard specific locations, and livestock can be caught and kept on your raft for eggs, milk and wool.

The Shark and How to Deal With It
The Shark is the animal you'll meet first, and it constantly circles your raft. It attacks anyone who goes into the water, so the safest move is to stay out of the sea while it's around, especially when you're gathering from the water. You can drive it off with spears or bows, but keeping your distance is the simpler plan. Once you have upgraded tools, it tends to be more of a nuisance than a real threat.
Hostile Animals on the Islands and in the Water
Beyond the Shark, hostile animals are spread across islands and open water. Screechers are large birds that drop boulders on you from above on large tropical islands. Warthogs charge straight at you, so don't let one get close.
Water is no safer. Anglerfish are quicker than they look and will bite if you're careless, and Poison-Puffers explode into poison underwater around large islands.
Seagulls are a different problem, since they eat crops from plots that aren't protected. Bees are a hostile swarm, and you catch one with a Sweep Net to collect Bee Jars.
Raft Bosses: Mama Bear, Rhino Shark and Alpha
Bosses are a different kind of fight, and each one is tied to a specific location. Mama Bear guards a cave on Balboa Island, and it can be lured away with Wild Berries. The Rhino Shark is found at Varuna Point, and weapons can't hurt it, so you have to lure it into explosive pillars instead. Alpha is a large hyena found on Utopia.
How to Tame Livestock in Raft
Cluckers, Goats and Llamas are caught with a Net Launcher, which fires Net Canisters as ammo. Once the net lands, pick the animal up and carry it back to your raft, where it's tamed.
How to Feed Livestock and Collect What They Make
Tamed livestock eat grass from Grass Plots, so those plots are what keeps your animals going. A hungry animal stops producing until it's fed again, so staying on top of the grass keeps the output coming. Cluckers lay Eggs, Goats give Milk that you collect with a Bucket, and Llamas give Wool that you cut with Shears.
Which Raft Animals Matter Most
For day-to-day play, the Shark matters most, since it's always close to your raft and decides where you can safely swim and gather. The bosses are worth planning for once you reach their locations, and the livestock are the animals to keep for a steady supply.
FAQ
Can livestock die if you forget to feed them?
No. An animal that goes hungry only pauses its output, so forgetting a feeding costs you that output, not the animal.
Where do you find Cluckers, Goats and Llamas?
Look on Large Islands, Balboa Island and Caravan Island, and bring a Net Launcher loaded with Net Canisters.
How often does the Shark attack?
While you're near the raft, it attacks one Foundation or Collection Net about every five minutes. Patch a bitten Foundation with a Plank right away so it doesn't break and take everything built on it.
What's the difference between Screechers and Poison-Puffers?
Screechers are a threat from above, dropping boulders on large tropical islands, while Poison-Puffers are a threat underwater, exploding into poison around large islands. Watch the sky near the first and the water near the second.
