Eggs and larvae are the young forms of fish, frogs, butterflies, bees and silkworms in The Planet Crafter, the survival game where you slowly turn a barren planet into a living one. You don't just collect them for show. You hatch them in an incubator, then place them in farms, aquariums and hives. Most of them add to the planet's biomass, the game's measure of life, and that speeds up terraforming.

How Eggs and Larvae Help Your Planet
Every creature you raise adds to the planet's biomass, which is the game's measure of how much life is growing. That matters because biomass pushes the terraforming index, the meter that tracks how far along the planet is. Fish and frogs count toward animal biomass, while butterflies and bees count toward insect biomass. Each species gives its own boost, so a rare one can add far more than a common one. Silkworms work differently, since they feed a Silk Generator instead of joining a farm or hive.
How the Incubator Hatches Them
The incubator is the machine that does most of the work. It unlocks once your terraforming index reaches 5 GTi, and the same machine makes butterfly larvae, bee larvae, silkworm larvae, fish eggs and frog eggs. Most recipes need a base item along with fertilizer and a mutagen, and the mutagens are made in the biolab.
Recipes don't always give the same result, because one recipe can hatch different creatures. That means you may need a few tries to get the species you're after. Anything you don't want can go into the recycler, which gives back its ingredients so you can try again.
Where to Find Wild Larvae and Frog Eggs
Wild larvae start appearing once you reach the insect stage of terraforming. They spawn close to you, and moving fast is a common way to miss them. Stand still or walk slowly for a few seconds, because jetpacking or sprinting past an area doesn't give them time to show up. Since larvae spawn near you, the ground you've just crossed can still hold new ones, so walking back over it is a good way to check for rarer exotics.
Natural frog ponds are small ponds full of frogs, surrounded by red rocks, and generic frog eggs start turning up in them once the planet reaches the Amphibians stage. Until you unlock the recipe for generic frog eggs, these ponds are how you get them, so it helps to find them early.
Butterfly Larvae and Insect Boosts
Common and rare larvae are the ones that go into the incubator to become butterflies, while exotic larvae are only found in the wild and give some of the biggest boosts. You place butterfly larvae in a Butterfly Farm or Butterfly Dome to raise your insect biomass.
Fish Eggs and Aquariums
A Water Life Collector placed on water gathers phytoplankton (the tiny plankton the collector scoops up), and now and then it picks up fish eggs. You can also craft fish eggs in the incubator from phytoplankton, a mutagen and fertilizer, which is the more dependable route. Once you have eggs, place them in a T1 or T2 aquarium or a fish farm to raise your animal biomass.
Where you place the collector also matters, since different water can turn up different eggs.
Frog Eggs and Amphibian Farms
Generic frog eggs are the starting point for frog breeding. Once you unlock their recipe, you can craft them in the incubator from phytoplankton, a T4 mutagen and fertilizer. Most other frog species are made by running generic eggs through the incubator with a mutagen and usually a fertilizer, and a few can't be crafted at all.
Frog eggs go into amphibian farms, and every farm you stock raises your animal biomass. Generic eggs can go straight into a farm without being crafted further. Spreading several different species across your farms is a good way to build your animal total.
Bee Larvae and Silkworm Larvae
Bee larvae and silkworm larvae both start from uncommon larvae, the grade you find in the wild. A bee larva takes an uncommon larva, a mutagen and fertilizer in the incubator, while a silkworm larva swaps the mutagen for a bacteria sample. Bee larvae matter because beehives need them to be built, and a beehive also makes honey and adds to your insect biomass.
An upgraded beehive can produce bee larvae too, which helps keep the supply going. Silkworm larvae are used differently. A Silk Generator needs three of them and turns them into silk every time.
Which Eggs and Larvae Are Worth Chasing First
If you only have time for a few, go after the biggest boosts in each group. The golden butterfly larva sits near the top of the insect side, and Seren frog eggs lead the animal side alongside the moon fish. Golden frog eggs and golden fish eggs are strong picks you can make in the incubator. The exotic butterfly larvae are the hardest to get because they only spawn in the wild, so searching their home areas is worth the effort.
FAQ
Where do I find Futura and Alben butterfly larvae?
Futura turns up in the Mushroom River cavern, and Alben is found in the Wasteland and the Iridium Mine. Both only spawn in the wild, so you'll need to search those areas yourself.
Which frog eggs can't be crafted, and how do you get them?
Lavaum eggs come from ponds in the volcano, and Jumi and Leglus are found in caves and distant procedural wrecks. Kenjoss can only be bought from the Trade Rocket.
What do you need to build a Water Life Collector?
You need 3 silk, 2 bioplastic nuggets and 1 super alloy. The collector unlocks once the planet's oxygen reaches 87 ppm.
What makes golden fish eggs hard to get?
Golden fish eggs need a T3 mutagen, which is made in the biolab. The result is random, so you may have to repeat the recipe a few times before golden eggs show up.
