Most Permafrost achievements reward things you'd do anyway, just a lot of times. Crafting, looting, hunting and staying alive all count. A few want one specific trick, and a few hide their goal on Steam. Plan the totals around what you already do, and your list fills up as you play.

Permafrost Achievements You Unlock Just by Playing
Start with the one-time actions, because they mostly happen on their own. Tool Time, Spark of Life, Schematic Starter, Locksmith, Smash It! and Sausage for the Dog each ask you to do one thing once: craft a tool, start a fire, learn a recipe, open a lock, break something destructible, pet your dog. Survivor works the same way, only slower. It needs a full day alive, and in Permafrost that mostly means staying warm and fed.
Crafting, Looting, Walking and Shooting Totals Worth Lining Up
Crafting Enthusiast, Recycler, Handyman, Architect, Scavenger, Lumberjack, Sharpshooter, Explorer, Cultist Slayer and Memory Collector are all counters. You can't rush them, so stack them with what you already do. Chop trees with an axe on every wood run and Lumberjack fills up with your Wood. Loot every container you pass and Scavenger follows. Tools and weapons wear down with use, which feeds two opposite goals: Handyman wants repairs, while Disposable wants you to run one item into the ground. Wear out something cheap and repair the rest. The tools list shows how long each one lasts.
Skill Achievements: Master of One, Jack of All Trades and Pain Threshold
Skills level by use, so these three come from habits, not detours. Master of One wants one skill at level 20, so pick the one you lean on all day. Jack of All Trades does the opposite and spreads the work across five skills. Pain Threshold asks for only level 5 in Toughness, the one skill that tops out at level 25 instead of 50. The skills list shows what each skill levels by.
Hunting and Combat Achievements That Need a Plan
These are the ones where a little planning saves ammunition. Archer only counts a bow kill from over 55 yards, so a point-blank arrow gets you the animal but not the achievement. The Crude Bow, Simple Bow and Compound Bow all fire Wooden Arrows, and you craft those by hand from Wood. The animals list shows which ones charge you and which ones bolt. Trapper wants a rabbit caught in a trap, not shot. S.O.S. needs the Flare Gun, the only weapon in the weapons list that fires 12ga Flare Ammo. Killing Spree is about speed rather than a running total, so look for enemies bunched together.
Three Mistakes That Waste Time on Unlucky Duo and Cold Resistance
- Grabbing any bottle for Unlucky Duo. You need Parasites and a drunk status at the same time, and several alcohol items in the consumables list also cure Parasites. Pick a drink that doesn't clear the Parasites you need.
- Going into a cold zone underdressed. Cold Resistance counts every second you spend in a cold zone, and your insulation decides how long you can hold out there. Check your pieces in the clothing list before you go in.
- Leaving skills to chance. Master of One and Jack of All Trades both come from using skills, so decide early which ones you'll lean on.
Story Achievements: The End and Hell Runner
Spoiler warning: these two are about finishing the story, so skip this part if you haven't. The End unlocks when you complete the main storyline. Hell Runner has a gear rule: finish White Hell without the Lunar Armor equipped. Line up other insulation and a heater before you start.
FAQ
Which Permafrost achievements need you to die?
Two of them. First Steps unlocks on your first death, whatever causes it. Leap of Fail is stricter: only a fatal fall from a great height counts, so any other death won't do it.
Does Steam show a condition for every Permafrost achievement?
No. Steam hides the goal for a few of them, so you'll only find out what they ask by playing. Work through the ones you can read and keep an eye on the rest.
Do the five skills for Jack of All Trades have to be specific ones?
No. Any five different skills at level 10 or higher count. Skills level by use, so the quickest picks are the ones you already lean on, like Axes from chopping trees or Bows from hunting with a bow.
