All 198 Monsterlings and Mutation Recipes in MONGIL: STAR DIVE

Updated on November 1, 2026 (3 days ago)

Monsterlings are the creatures you catch in Mongil: Star Dive, the free-to-play monster-taming action RPG from Netmarble. You equip them on your characters, and each one brings a Fixed Ability that is always on, while many also carry a Link Skill that fires during fights. Collecting them all fills the Monster Codex, so it helps to keep track of which ones you already have.

How Monsterlings Work and How to Equip Them

Each character can equip up to three Monsterlings, and the slot you pick matters. Every Monsterling has a Fixed Ability, many also have a Link Skill, and the two work differently. The Link Skill only works from the first slot and triggers under a condition, like using a special skill or landing an ultimate attack, so put the Monsterling with the strongest Link Skill there.

The Fixed Ability is always on and works from any slot, so it still helps when a Monsterling sits in a later slot. It can boost the character holding it or the whole party. Each Monsterling can also carry traits, the extra stats that matter most over the long run.

How to Catch Monsterlings and Where to Find Them

To catch a Monsterling, you first defeat it in combat, and then you can try to capture it. Your odds depend on the Monsterling's rarity and your Nyanners Level, a separate progression system that grows as you capture monsters. A higher Nyanners Level also raises your Capture Proficiency, which improves your capture success rate.

Common and rare Monsterlings turn up in the open world as you explore, which makes them the easiest ones to build a collection from. Epic, or purple, Monsterlings come from the Request Board, the most reliable place to get them. The Conquest Board is where the rare boss Monsterlings come from, the kind that tougher bosses and Conquest challenges call for.

Monsterling Traits: Which Ones to Chase

Traits are the extra stats on a Monsterling, and each one can hold up to four. Crit rate (how often you land critical hits), crit damage, and boss damage top most players' lists because they raise your damage directly.

Cooldown reduction and element weakness come next. Traits that only help one class, such as neutralization, brawl, suppression, and support damage, are usually worth skipping unless your whole team is built around them. Flat stat boosts are the weakest, so they are the first to replace.

Crit damage often adds more than crit rate. Many characters already reach a high crit rate without traits, so extra crit damage makes the bigger difference. The usual way to chase the traits you want is to keep combining spare Monsterlings until they show up.

How Combining Works and How Mutants Are Made

Combining takes two Monsterlings you own and merges them into one. Both originals are used up, and the result is usually one of the two parents, so combining at random rarely gets you anything new. Combining unlocks early in the story, right after Breezeville is rebuilt.

Mutants come from fixed recipes, where two set Monsterlings combine into one specific mutant. The Mutations tab next to the Combining tab lists these recipes, including the ones you haven't discovered yet. The right pair adds the mutant to the possible results rather than guaranteeing it, so a mutation can take a few tries.

The Best Monsterlings to Build Around

Strong teams usually mix support and damage Monsterlings. Support picks such as El Dorado Guardian, Gulgak, and Amon help the whole team, while damage picks such as Scar, Ice Fist Dude, Duoxini, Red Shadow, and Fiend fill the damage role.

Fiend boosts its holder's Fire Special Skill damage, so it suits a fire-focused build, while Red Shadow works best with ice special skills. Which ones matter most depends on your team, so avoid spending heavily on one before you know what your characters need.

Saving Upgrade Stones While You Build Your Collection

Upgrade stones are the main bottleneck for most players, so spend them with care. Daily dungeons are the most dependable source, and Rift clears, events, and first-clear story bonuses also hand them out. Upgrade stones raise a Monsterling's star rating without touching its traits, so only use them on ones whose traits you're happy with.

Early on, hold your stones and skip investing in placeholder Monsterlings unless they roll strong traits. Build a few core Monsterlings first, and fill in the rest as better ones turn up. Mid-game teams usually lean on purple Monsterlings with crit traits.

FAQ

Q.

Can you see the odds before you combine?

Yes. The Rate tab shows the odds for the pair you picked, including how much of each trait is likely to transfer, and a preview lists the possible outcomes. Check both before you confirm, because a confirmed combine can't be undone.

Q.

Will I keep my traits when I combine two Monsterlings?

Not automatically. Premium Salmon Puree locks traits so they carry over, and the cost climbs with each trait you lock: 5 for one, 10 for two, 20 for three, and 40 for four. You can get Puree from the Rift Shop, and lock before you confirm, because an unlocked trait can be replaced by a random one.
