Armor in Grounded 2 is the gear you wear to protect yourself from the park's bugs and hazards. Each piece adds defense and an effect of its own, and wearing three pieces from the same set unlocks an extra set bonus. The game sorts armor into four classes, Fighter, Mage, Ranger and Rogue, plus a Classless group, and each class suits a different style of play. Knowing how these parts fit together keeps you from spending materials on gear you won't use.

How Grounded 2 Armor Works
Every armor piece fits one of three slots: head, body or legs. Each one gives you defense, which lowers the damage you take, and carries an effect of its own, such as extra max health or cheaper blocks. The body piece usually gives the most defense of the three.
The bigger payoff comes from sets. A set is three matching pieces, one for each slot, and wearing all three unlocks a set bonus on top of each piece's own effect. Two pieces won't trigger it, so once you start a set, it's worth finishing.
Armor also protects you from the park's hazards, and some pieces are built for one particular danger. Those specialist pieces matter most when you're heading into that danger, so you don't need them everywhere.
Grounded 2 Armor Classes: Fighter, Mage, Ranger, Rogue and Classless
Most armor belongs to one of four classes, and each class gives a passive effect while you wear its pieces. Fighter armor adds an extra stun on the third hit of a combo. Mage armor makes staff attacks cost less stamina, Ranger armor adds damage to weak points, and Rogue armor gives the third hit of a combo a higher chance to crit.
The class tells you what kind of fight the armor was built for, so it's worth matching it to how you play. Mage pieces suit staff users, and Ranger pieces suit bow and spear fighting. Classless armor sits outside the four classes and has no class passive, so you choose it for its set bonus instead.
How to Get Armor in Grounded 2
Armor is crafted at a Workbench from creature parts and resources, so you'll need to hunt and gather first. You can't craft a piece until you've unlocked its recipe, though. You do that by scanning a key material at a Resource Analyzer, so scanning an Acorn Shell or Acorn Top unlocks the Acorn pieces. Some recipes also need more Brainpower, which rises as you scan new materials, so keep analyzing as you explore.
How to Repair and Upgrade Armor
Armor wears down as you use it. Pieces in the same set usually share the same durability, and tougher sets last longer. Each piece has its own repair cost, made from materials close to what its recipe uses, so keep a stock of those materials on hand.
A Smithing Station can upgrade your armor up to level 5. At level 3 you pick a path: the bulky path adds defense, while the sleek path gives up a little defense for a unique bonus effect. Bulky suits players who mostly want to take hits, and sleek suits players who want a special trait.
Best Armor in Grounded 2: Which Pieces Matter Most
Which pieces matter most depends on how you fight, but a few stand out. Early on, Acorn is a solid Fighter choice, since its set bonus adds damage reduction while you block and it's one of the first sets you can unlock. Grub Vest is a good early Ranger pick because it helps your stamina recover faster, and the Red Ant helmet adds defense without weighing you down.
In the middle of the game, Roach is worth a look if status effects keep catching you, since its bonus builds resistance to Venom, Chill and Sizzle up to five stacks. Weaver legs are a popular choice for balancing defense and mobility. Sizzling is a strong pick for staff users, with faster staff attacks and heat protection.
For the late game, look at the tier 4 sets. Toe Biter stands out for its high durability and defense, while Centi-Cultist, Termite and Striped are the tier 4 choices for Mage, Ranger and Rogue players.
FAQ
Is classless armor worth wearing?
Yes, if its set bonus does what you need. Fuzzy cuts the Chill you build up after kills, Clover halves how fast your thirst drains, and Diving gives you unlimited oxygen along with access to the Abyss. Koi Scale lets spears restore oxygen, which helps if that's your situation.
Can you mix armor pieces from different sets?
Yes. Each piece still gives its own defense and effect, so a mixed outfit still protects you. You only lose the set bonus, which makes mixing a good stopgap while you gather the rest of a set.
What armor helps with gas or heat?
The Gas Mask reduces gas damage and the Woozy buildup that gas causes, so it's worth wearing in gassy areas. The Tin Foil Hat removes heat gain, but it lowers your Shock resistance, so it's a trade-off.
