Gray Zone Warfare is a tactical shooter set on Lamang, a quarantined island in Southeast Asia torn apart by faction warfare, and your gun is your main tool in most fights. The arsenal covers assault rifles, battle rifles, rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, and pistols, and each type is built for a different range and job. Rogue Ops adds bullpup rifles and semi-automatic shotguns to that mix, along with new guns such as the G36 and Benelli M4. Knowing what each type does well, how calibers and ammo change your shots, and how guns are found makes it much easier to pick the right one.

Gun Types in Gray Zone Warfare and What Each One Is For
Guns are sorted by type, and the type tells you the range and situation a gun is built for. Assault rifles are the all-round guns. They fire a mid-power round that works in close rooms and across open ground, and the AKM family, M4A1, DDM4, M16 A1, and CQ A1 all fill that role.
Battle rifles such as the G3 fire the heavier 7.62 NATO round. That round carries farther and hits harder, but it kicks more in your hands, so these guns reward a steady stance.
Rifles cover the longer end of the range. Bolt-action guns like the Mosin-Nagant and M700 are worked by hand between shots, which slows your rate of fire but keeps each shot deliberate. Semi-automatic rifles such as the SVD fire with every pull of the trigger, so follow-up shots come much faster.
Submachine guns, such as the MP5, MP7A1, and MP7A2, fire smaller rounds at a high rate. That suits fast, close fights where volume of fire matters more than reach.
Shotguns are built for the closest range. Pump-action models like the M870 and Mossberg 590 fire 12 gauge shells, and the spread of the shot makes them strong in a doorway but weak at a distance.
Pistols, such as the Glock 17, Beretta M9A1, and Colt 1911, are the sidearm you carry for close trouble, or when your main gun is empty or out of reach.
Gray Zone Warfare Calibers and What They Mean
A caliber is the cartridge a gun fires, and each gun fires a single caliber. It sets how far a shot carries and how hard it hits, and it decides which ammo you can load.
The M4A1, DDM4, and M16 A1 use 5.56x45 NATO, a light round that is easy to control. The AK-74M, AK-74N, AK-12, and AKS-74U use 5.45x39, a close relative that handles much the same. The AKM, AKMN, AKMSN, AK-15, and SKS use 7.62x39, a heavier round, while the G3, M14 Rifle, M1A Rifle, and AK-308 use the even larger 7.62 NATO.
Submachine guns and pistols mostly use 9x19, such as the MP5, Glock 17, Glock 18C, and Beretta M9A1, or .45 ACP, such as the Colt 1911, Colt Combat Commander, and UMP. The MP7A1 and MP7A2 are the outliers, firing 4.6x30mm, a small, high-speed round built for low recoil and armor penetration. The SIG MCX fires .300 AAC Blackout, and every shotgun uses 12 gauge.
How Ballistics, Armor and Ammo Change Your Shots
Gray Zone Warfare is built around realistic ballistics, so what a bullet does depends on what it hits. There isn't a simple health bar. Damage is tracked on the body instead, starting with the armor an enemy is wearing and moving inward to organs, which can affect movement, vision, and blood loss.
Penetration depends on both the ammo and the material a bullet passes through, so the same round may stop against a vest but pass through a thinner target. Ricochet changes with the surface a bullet strikes, and rounds behave differently in water and mud. These details matter most when you're shooting around cover.
Ammo is where armor comes in. Soft point and hollow point rounds cause larger wounds than full metal jacket and armor-piercing rounds, which makes them strong against unarmored targets. Armor-piercing rounds are designed to get through armor, so they're the better choice when enemies wear plates.
Attachments and Gun Customization
Most guns can be fitted with parts that change how they aim, sound, and handle. Sights and collimators change your aim, suppressors cut the noise of each shot, and grips, stocks, and barrels shape handling and recoil. Rogue Ops adds new collimator sights and magnifiers, so there's more to try on guns you already use.
Weapons and parts hold up well under use, so a setup you've spent time on lasts. Because the choices are so varied, it's worth testing a new setup before you rely on it in a real fight.
How to Get Guns in Gray Zone Warfare
Vendors sell some guns, and what each one offers depends on your standing with them. Vulture is a regular vendor too, reached through the standard vendor screen.
Many guns turn up in the world instead. Enemies carry many of them, while hidden stashes and loot spawns hold others. What you find depends on where you are, since guards at drug labs carry different firearms than the fighters you meet elsewhere.
High-value loot spawns less often, so a strong gun can take real searching. Rare weapon builds also turn up as loot, but the odds are low. Some named guns, such as Buran's AK-74N, unlock for purchase when you finish specific tasks, so questing is a way to get guns too.
New Guns and Gun Types in Rogue Ops
Rogue Ops adds bullpup rifles and semi-automatic shotguns as new gun types, and it fills them with new guns. A bullpup moves the magazine behind the grip, so a full rifle-length barrel fits inside a shorter body. That makes it easier to handle in tight spaces, like around corners and through doorways.
A semi-automatic shotgun fires again with each pull of the trigger instead of being worked by hand, so quick follow-up shots are possible. That matters in close fights where you may need a second shot in a hurry.
The new bullpups are the Steyr AUG and the FAMAS. The Benelli M4 is the new semi-automatic shotgun, and the G36, G3, UMP, and Glock 18C join the assault rifles, battle rifles, submachine guns, and pistols. Most of the new guns are found in the world rather than bought. The Glock 18C and Benelli M4 are the exceptions, and vendors still sell them.
How to Choose a Gun by Type, Caliber and Range
Start with the range you expect to fight at. For close rooms and tight corners, a shotgun, a submachine gun, or a pistol is the natural pick, and the 9x19, .45 ACP, and 4.6x30 rounds all do well in that space.
For mid-range fights across open ground, a 5.56 or 5.45 rifle gives a good balance of control and reach. A 7.62 rifle reaches farther and hits harder, but the extra kick is the trade. For long shots, the bolt-action Mosin-Nagant and M700 and the semi-automatic SVD are built for that distance.
Once you know the range, check the ammo. Pick a caliber you can keep stocked, match your rounds to the armor you expect to face, and keep a pistol as a backup whatever you choose.
FAQ
Is the Glock 18C fully automatic?
It can be. The Glock 18C is a selective-fire pistol, so you can switch between single shots for control and automatic fire when you need to put rounds down fast.
Are there camo versions of the new guns?
Yes. Rogue Ops adds camouflage variants for firearms, and the new guns also have special camo-wrapped versions that are tied to Range & Rifle magazines found in the world.
Where do the guns Vulture sells come from?
Vulture sells weapons recovered from dead PMCs, so his stock is gear taken from fallen fighters.
Does the MP7 have armor-piercing ammo?
Yes. The MP7's round comes in an armor-piercing load called AP SX, along with a subsonic option called Subsonic SX.
