Zobos are the enemy creatures you face in Clash of Critters, and bosses are the toughest of them. You meet them in chapter stages, in Horde Invasion, and in Boss Challenge. Your own creatures, called Tatari, are the ones you place in lanes to fight them, and almost every Zobo has an element that decides which Tatari hit it hardest.

Regular Zobos vs Boss Zobos
Regular Zobos are the everyday enemies, and they show up in waves. Most of them are close-up fighters or ranged attackers that shoot or throw from farther away. Many also have a trick of their own, like Matchstick Zobo, which explodes when knocked down, or Barrel Zobo, which hides in a barrel at low health to gain a defense boost.
Some regular Zobos are helpers instead of fighters. Chemist Zobo spends its own health to heal nearby allies, Bugler Zobo boosts their attack, and Trekker Zobo speeds them up.
Boss Zobos are the headline enemies. They have more involved attacks, and they often call in extra Zobos or change how they fight as the battle goes on. Many also return in special modes with their own twists.
Elements and Counters for Zobos
Almost every Zobo has one of five elements: Fire, Grass, Water, Lightning, or Rock. The elements form a loop, where each one beats one other and loses to another. Fire beats Grass, Grass beats Rock, Rock beats Lightning, Lightning beats Water, and Water beats Fire.
The element that beats a Zobo's element is its counter. Hitting a Zobo with its counter deals double damage, while hitting it with the element it beats deals only half damage. Every other matchup deals normal damage, so these are the counters to remember:
- Grass Zobos: Fire
- Rock Zobos: Grass
- Lightning Zobos: Rock
- Water Zobos: Lightning
- Fire Zobos: Water
Ordinary Zobo and Two-Headed Zobo have no element. They take neutral damage from every element, so any team can fight them.
Before a fight, tap the Zobo-head button to see each wave's elements and Zobo types. As you place Tatari into lanes, a green or red thumb appears and the lane lights up with Yes or No to show whether it counters the wave.
How Boss Zobos Fight and How to Handle Them
Many bosses don't fight alone. They call in helpers during the battle, such as Clerk Zobos, Rocker Zobos, barrels, or coffins. Some even weaken as their helpers fall: Manager Zobo loses health when its summons are knocked down, and Shaman Zobo's shield gets weaker as its Hanger-On Zobos fall.
That makes clearing the helpers part of beating the boss, not a side task. Summoner bosses also punish lanes that focus on a single target, so it helps to bring attacks that hit a whole area.
Other bosses change partway through. Volcano Zobo explodes and revives after its first defeats, and Pharaoh Zobo keeps reappearing from the last coffin destroyed. Captain Zobo fires from range and drops coins, and collecting them restores its health and raises its attack until it switches to a blade.
Movement and status effects add more trouble. Sandworm Zobo uses quicksand to shift your Tatari out of place, and Totem Zobo keeps moving toward the map edge while boosting nearby Zobos. Others use status effects, from Yeti Zobo's freezing punches to Chef Zobo's burning skewers.
Boss Challenge Zobos: What Changes
Boss Challenge is a leaderboard fight that brings back some bosses in tougher versions. Each boss keeps its own leaderboard, and players are ranked by the highest difficulty they reach and the damage they deal. Several bosses go by a different name in this mode. Goonch Zobo becomes Frankenfish, Popstar Zobo becomes Pop Star, Roadhog Zobo becomes Road Bully, and Manager Zobo becomes Dean Zobo, while Tipsy Zobo keeps its name in an enhanced version.
The Boss Challenge versions do more than the chapter bosses. Frankenfish is the exception because it doesn't summon, but it teleports between lanes after a set number of hits. The rest bring extra helpers, such as Pop Star's larger group of Rocker Zobos and Road Bully's steady stream of Miner Zobos. Dean Zobo is the one to watch closely, since it can remove one of your Tatari from the fight.
Where to Find Zobos in Chapters and Horde Invasion
You'll meet regular Zobos and bosses in chapter stages, and they also fill the waves of Horde Invasion. Horde Invasion is a two-player survival mode where bosses rotate through the waves by element. Some later waves bring more than one boss at once, so a team built around a single element won't cover the whole run. Bringing all five elements is the baseline for this mode.
Certain elements matter more because of who's in the rotation. Fire is especially useful since many boss Zobos are Grass, and Lightning counters the Water bosses that open Horde rotations.
FAQ
Which Zobo is the first boss in Horde Invasion?
Two-Headed Zobo is the first boss you face in Horde Invasion. Since it has no element, you don't need to plan around a counter for it, so you can start the run with whichever Tatari you have ready.
How do you beat Frankenfish in Boss Challenge?
Lightning is the element to bring, but timing matters too. Frankenfish takes extra damage for five seconds after it teleports, so press your attacks right after it jumps. Because it moves between lanes, spread your damage across lanes instead of focusing on just one.
Can Zobos fly?
Yes, some do. Clown Zobo is a boss that flies onto the field before landing to attack with its dual blades. Retriever Zobo is a regular Lightning Zobo that also flies, and it has a long attack range.
How does Laser Zobo's laser work?
Laser Zobo generates cogs and fires a piercing laser. Each cog it collects lengthens the laser, and other Zobos drop cogs while it's on the field, which gives it more to collect. Since it's a Lightning Zobo, Rock is the element to use against it.
