All 144 Beasts, Their Types and Remasters in Cassette Beasts

Updated on November 1, 2026 (3 days ago)

In Cassette Beasts, beasts are the creatures that fight for you in battle, and you can meet and collect them all across the game world. Each one has an element type, such as Fire, Water, Plant or Air, and that type shapes how it fights. You record a wild beast onto a cassette tape to make it yours. Recording every species is a big part of the game, so it helps to keep track of which ones you still need.

Beast Types and Matchups in Cassette Beasts

Every beast belongs to one of 14 element types, and that type decides what it is strong and weak against. Attacks have types too, so the move you pick matters just as much as the beast. When an attack's type beats the target's, it deals about 30% more damage and often adds a lasting effect like burn or poison.

When an attack loses to the target's type, it deals about 23% less damage, and the target gets a boost instead. An attack that matches the beast's own type hits about 20% harder.

Where to Find Beasts in Cassette Beasts

Most beasts show up as wild encounters while you explore and fight your way through the world. Rogue Fusions are tougher fights made of beasts fused together, usually from the beasts native to that area. A flood of lava, poison or water around one hints that one of its beasts is a Fire, Poison or Water type.

Fusion Swarms are long series of fights where a fused beast eventually appears, and Orb Fusions are the toughest, shielded by an orb you have to break first. Some beasts come from story characters instead of the wild, so you get them by moving through the plot.

How to Record a Beast

Recording is how you catch beasts. In battle, you use a tape on a wild beast, and the game rolls for a chance to record it. Each try uses up a tape, and the beast always keeps at least 1 HP while you record it, so your attack alone can't knock it out.

Your odds go up when you deal more damage than you take, and they're better when the beast is badly hurt. Lower-level beasts are easier to record, and rare species are harder. Chrome Tape is much stronger than the Basic Tape, and elemental tapes work best when their element matches the beast's type. Upgrades you buy can raise your odds further, but if your recorder falls asleep, the attempt fails.

Tracking Beasts in the Bestiary

Recording a beast marks its species as Recorded in the Bestiary, and that unlocks the first of its Bio entries. The Bestiary also lists the beasts you have seen, so it's the place to check what you still need to find.

How Fusion Works

Fusion lets you join your active beast with your partner's for a single battle. The fusion meter fills as you take damage, and once it's full, you can fuse on your turn. To fuse, you first need to reach relationship level 1 with your partner.

A fused beast uses the moves of both beasts and gets their combined stats and status effects. The risk is that if a fused beast is knocked out, the fusion breaks apart and both of its tapes break with it. That's why it's wise to save fusions for boss fights and other tough encounters. You can unfuse starting on the turn after you fuse, and unfusing costs no turn.

Rogue Fusions also drop Fused Material, which you can trade to Ranger Wilma for permanent upgrades, including ones that improve your recording odds.

How Beasts Evolve Through Remastering

In Cassette Beasts, evolution is called remastering. Beasts earn stars instead of levels: battles fill a bar that adds a star, and a beast becomes eligible once it reaches five stars. Rest at a campfire or the Gramophone Cafe table, and the remaster option appears for any eligible beast in your party. Not every beast can remaster, and some go through more than one remaster in a chain.

The form you get can depend on what you do. Some remasters ask a question first, and your answer decides the result. Others depend on a sticker or the time of day. Masquerattle becomes Aeroboros when you equip a Zephyr sticker, and Dominoth becomes Tokusect by day or Wingloom at night.

Bootleg Beasts

Bootlegs are rare versions of a beast with a different type, moves and color scheme. In battle, their names show in red, and the Glitter type appears only on bootlegs. Their moves depend on their type, and they often replace moves the regular beast would learn. You'll rarely see one in a random encounter, at about a 0.1% rate, but fused encounters are much more likely to hold one. Those are about 2% for most Rogue Fusions, 5% for Rogue Fusions with a flood, 10% for Fusion Swarms and 20% for Orb Fusions.

A Ritual Candle can guarantee a bootleg in your next Rogue Fusion, but you have to spend a beast to use one, and the bootleg will match that beast's species or type.

Which Beasts Matter Most

Your starter is either Candevil or Bansheep, and you pick it through Kayleigh's dialogue. A few early beasts stand out after that. Squirey is a strong melee attacker, and its remasters stay useful for much of the game. Carniviper is one of the speediest beasts you'll meet, and it often poisons enemies. Kittelly is a fast Lightning-type attacker.

Later on, Kingrave and Artillerex are the ones to look for. Kingrave hits hard in melee and suits its Earth-type moves, while Artillerex is a Fire type with a wide range of moves that often cause lasting effects.

FAQ

Q.

Can you record a fused beast?

No. A wild fusion can't be recorded, but once you defeat it, you can record the beasts it was made from.

Q.

Can you get the starter you didn't pick?

Yes. Reach level 5 on the Ranger Noticeboard, and you'll receive a bootleg version of the starter you didn't choose.

Q.

Is there a tape that always records a beast?

Yes. The Optical Laser Tape skips the usual chance and always succeeds, so it's worth saving for a beast you really want.
