A mutation is a boost you slap onto a crop to multiply the cash it sells for. Wet barely nudges your income, while Fire ten-times it, and the gap between them is the whole game once your farm starts earning. Some you buy as sprays, some only drop during weather events, and a couple ride along with a pet or a crate.

Spray Mutations
These come from sprays you buy in the Gear Shop and apply yourself, so you decide exactly which crop gets the boost and when. The cash price climbs fast as the multiplier grows, which is why the strongest ones are saved for your most valuable plants.

Event & Pet Mutations
You cannot buy these off a shelf. Some only land while a specific weather or developer event is live, one rides along with the Starfall Griffin pet, and Carnival comes out of crate rewards. They take patience or luck, but a few carry boosts you cannot get any other way.

Picking the right mutation to chase
The multiplier is the number that matters, but the price tells you whether it is worth it yet. Cheap sprays like Wet and Frozen are fine early filler. The big jumps come from Cosmic, Bubblegum, and Fire, and those sprays cost enough that you want them on your best crops, not your starter plants.
Most mutations replace whatever was already on a crop, so spraying a new one wipes the old boost. Two break that rule: Starfall and Carnival both stack on top of an existing mutation, which turns a single boost into a much bigger one. Save those for a crop that already carries a strong multiplier.
Buying versus waiting
Sprays from the Gear Shop apply instantly, so you control exactly when and where a crop gets its boost. Event mutations like Alien, Honeycomb, and Admin only land while the matching weather event or developer event is running, so they come down to luck and timing. If you put a mutation on the wrong crop, the Acid Spray strips it back off for $1M so you can start over. Cosmic is a little different from the other sprays: alongside its cash cost it also asks for Plant Tokens, so check your token balance before you commit.
FAQ
What is the best mutation in Build A Ring Farm?
Fire has the highest multiplier at 10x, so it gives the biggest single boost to a crop's sell value. Carnival sits just under it and has the bonus of stacking on top of another mutation.
Do mutations stack in Build A Ring Farm?
Most do not. Spraying a new mutation replaces the one already on a crop. The exceptions are Starfall and Carnival, which both layer on top of an existing mutation to multiply the boost even further.
How do you apply a mutation?
Buy a spray from the Gear Shop and use it on a crop to apply that mutation instantly. Others arrive on their own during weather events, from the Starfall Griffin pet, or from crate rewards.
Can you remove a mutation?
Yes. The Acid Spray strips the current mutation off a crop for $1M, which lets you reapply a different one if you boosted the wrong plant.
Are event mutations better than sprays?
Not always. Sprays let you choose the timing and the crop, while event mutations depend on the right event showing up. A few event boosts like Honeycomb and Admin are worth waiting for, but for steady progress the buyable sprays are easier to plan around.
