Red Dead Online Wiki

Updated on (about 2 hours ago)

Red Dead Online is a player-created frontier sandbox. Build an online character, establish a camp, and ride alone or with a posse through Free Roam Missions, cooperative A Land of Opportunities missions, Showdown and Race activities, poker, hunting, fishing, and commerce. Earn RDO$, XP, Gold, and Role XP, then put that progress into equipment, horses, camp improvements, skills, and role items.

Five Specialist Roles shape the long-term path: Bounty Hunter, Trader, Collector, Moonshiner, and Naturalist. Each has 20 base ranks in four five-rank tiers: Novice, Promising, Established, and Distinguished. Role activities grant Role XP, while rank-ups grant Role Tokens and unlock role skills and items. The Prestigious Bounty Hunter License is a separate 10-rank extension, character rank separately gates general purchases, and Ability Cards provide an adjustable loadout system.

Specialist Roles

Specialist Roles give Red Dead Online's player-created character several ways to build a routine beyond ordinary missions. Bounty Hunter, Trader, Collector, Moonshiner, and Naturalist each tie a distinct frontier activity to Role XP, role ranks, tokens, and equipment. Access begins through role-specific contacts or camp systems, and the paths can be mixed with camp, Free Roam, and posse play.

Red Dead Online gameplay tips

  • Use role activities as the cleanest route to Role XP. Role unlocks and Role Tokens sit on a separate track from ordinary character-rank unlocks, so general rank requirements and role progress are not interchangeable.
  • Choose the activity loop that matches your goal, keep the camp as a base between jobs, and bring a posse when a mission or delivery benefits from cooperation.
  • For Bounty Hunter work, live targets pay better than dead ones. Keep the target alive when the situation allows it.
  • Naturalist work splits between sampling wildlife for Harriet and supplying animal parts to Gus. Pick the hand-in that matches whether you are studying animals or supplying a hunt.
  • Adjust Ability Card loadouts to fit the mission and your play style. Different situations call for different cards, so there is no single best build.
  • Prices, role rewards, bonuses, and event rotations change over time. Check separately maintained, dated coverage for time-sensitive details when it is available.
