How you get vehicles in Story Mode
Most land vehicles are stolen from traffic or purchased from in-game websites. Story Mode sites are Legendary Motorsport, Southern San Andreas Super Autos, Elitás Travel, DockTease, Warstock Cache & Carry, and Pedal and Metal Cycles.
A street steal is not delivered to storage. Park it in a garage if you want to keep it. A website purchase goes to the matching storage on its own.
On Original, title-update DLC vehicles are granted through the garage Special Vehicles list. Enhanced and Expanded & Enhanced move those same models onto the websites. That is a delivery change, not a different car.
Michael's Tailgater, Franklin's Buffalo S, and Trevor's Bodhi persist and respawn at the current safehouse. Extra personal vehicles include Franklin's Bagger after Repossession, Trevor's Trevor Philips Enterprises Frogger after Three's Company, Amanda's Sentinel, and Tracey's Issi at the De Santa house. These are the generic models plus ownership.
The Space Docker is the reward for collecting all 50 spaceship parts and finishing Far Out. It is a keeper, not a throwaway mission spawn. Mission-only vehicles are the opposite: you can enter them during the scripted beat, then they are gone.
Storage, insurance, and the impound
Purchased cars, bikes, and cycles store in a protagonist home space or an optional four-car garage in Grove Street, Vinewood, or Pillbox Hill. Purchased boats store at Puerto Del Sol Marina. Purchased aircraft appear at the LSIA hangar or Vespucci helipad for Michael and Franklin, and at Sandy Shores Airfield for Trevor.
Story Mode purchases are not insured. Destroy a bought vehicle and it is gone, mods included. Abandoned modified or purchased vehicles can turn up at the Mission Row Impound for $250, and the lot keeps the two most recent. Primary personal vehicles skip the impound and respawn at the safehouse instead.
Mods and stat bars
Los Santos Customs mods stay on the car as long as it stays stored. They do not protect it: a destroyed modded car is gone with the money you put into it.
Speed, acceleration, braking, and handling use Rockstar's 0-100 bars from Story Mode, not community lap times or tested top speeds. They are handy inside a class and a poor way to settle a highway argument.
A blank stat means no comparable bar was recorded. That is common on industrial machines, mission vehicles, and some aircraft.
Common mistakes
- Do not mix GTA Online prices or unlocks with Story Mode information. The two modes use different inventories.
- A destroyed purchase is gone. There is no insurance payout.
- Special Vehicles grants on Original and website stock on Enhanced are the same models delivered two different ways.
- Street steals do not auto-store. Website buys do.
- Mission-only vehicles are not free-roam keepers. The Space Docker is the exception that is meant to be kept.
- Trains and trailers are omitted because they cannot be driven.
Bought through DockTease and stored at Puerto Del Sol Marina. Smaller craft like the Seashark also turn up at beaches and lakesides.
Box trucks, haulers, and tankers from highways and industrial zones. Street steals that store like any large land vehicle once garaged.
Small city cars that are cheap to buy and common to steal. The Issi also appears as a De Santa household car.
Two door hardtops and convertibles from traffic and Southern San Andreas Super Autos. Amanda's Sentinel is the household personal version.
Human powered bikes from Pedal and Metal Cycles or picked up around Los Santos. Same garage storage when kept, with no engine upkeep.
Law, fire, and medical vehicles that bring attention when stolen. The Police Predator is a boat and the Police Maverick is a helicopter, grouped here by service rather than by wheels.
Stored at helipads and airfields, with Trevor using Sandy Shores. His Trevor Philips Enterprises Frogger arrives after Three's Company.
Heavy plant machinery found at work sites and in missions. Slow, hard to store, and rarely worth a garage slot.
Barracks trucks, the Crusader, and the Rhino tank. Stealing one brings heat, and the Rhino settles most arguments.
Bikes store in garages like cars and are easy to lose in traffic. Franklin gains a personal Bagger after Repossession.
Burger Shot Stallion, Pißwasser Dominator, and Redwood Gauntlet are Enhanced stock-car unlocks. Duke O'Death is an Enhanced unlock from the Duel random event, then sold by Warstock.
Dirt bikes, buggies, and 4x4s built for sand and hills. Trevor's Bodhi is the personal version and respawns at his safehouse.
Stored at hangars and airfields rather than garages. The Atomic Blimp is a Collector's Edition grant that is standard on Enhanced, while the Xero Blimp is Enhanced and Expanded & Enhanced only.
Four door traffic cars that are easy to steal and easy to store. Michael's Tailgater is the personal version of a common sedan.
Buses, taxis, and work trucks that spawn in service areas and traffic. Big and slow, and mostly a novelty in a garage.
Older styled coupes and convertibles split between traffic steals and Legendary Motorsport stock. A few are tied to missions or unlocks rather than regular traffic.
Exotica that lives on Legendary Motorsport at high Story Mode prices. Street sightings are rare, so plan on buying rather than stealing.
Large family and luxury SUVs from traffic and websites. Heavy in a collision and wide in a garage, with ordinary storage rules.
Trailers are omitted because they cannot be driven.
Work vans taken from streets and job sites. Most are not sold on websites, so steal one and garage it if you want to keep it.
