The best weather event in Catch And Tame depends on what you are trying to do. Use Aurora Borealis when you want broad luck, Bloodmoon when you have strong pets ready for a high-value mutation route, Cosmic Shower when you want both Cosmic progress and Cosmic Griffin chances, and Sandstorm or Blizzard when you are farming specific weather pets.
For the full game setup, use the Catch And Tame wiki. The complete row-by-row weather reference is on the Catch And Tame weather events list.

The best weather depends on your goal
Weather is valuable only if you use the short window well. A luck event is weak if you have nothing ready to catch or hatch. A mutation event is wasted if your best pets are not in the pen. A spawn event is easy to miss if you are standing on the wrong island.
| Goal | Best weather to watch for | Why it is worth using |
|---|---|---|
| Broad luck | Aurora Borealis | It gives the strongest listed luck boost and helps rare or mutated animal attempts. |
| Early easy catching | Rainy | It gives a smaller luck boost, makes catches easier, and can bring Turtle. |
| High-value mutation route | Bloodmoon | Bloodbound is one of the strongest weather-linked mutations, so use Bloodmoon Grapes on pets you plan to keep. |
| Mutation plus rare spawn | Cosmic Shower | It supports Cosmic mutation progress, Cosmic Fruit, and Cosmic Griffin chasing in one window. |
| Desert and Sky Island spawns | Sandstorm | It is useful for Camel, Griffin, and Basilisk routes when you are already prepared. |
| Snow routes | Blizzard | It can apply Frozen and supports snow or winter pet farming. |
| Rare bonus only | Admin Cloud | Use it if it appears, but do not plan a normal route around it. |
Do not treat this as one permanent tier list. A new player with a Rain Totem may get more practical value from Rainy than from waiting for a rare event. A late-game player with strong pets ready may care more about Bloodmoon, Cosmic Shower, or Aurora Borealis.
Use luck weather when you are ready to spend the window
Aurora Borealis is the safest all-purpose pick because it gives a +300% luck boost. Save serious catching, hatching, and reward-opening plans for it when possible. It is the weather you want when your goal is not one specific pet, but better odds across the whole session.
Rainy is weaker, but still useful early. It gives +25% luck, makes animals easier to catch, and can spawn Turtle. If you are still building your first steady pen, Rainy is a good time to catch more comfortably instead of waiting for rarer weather.
Sunny is the opposite. It has no listed bonus, so use it as prep time. Sell, feed, combine, move to the right island, check your inventory, and get ready before a stronger weather window starts.
Use mutation weather on pets you actually want to keep
Mutation weather is strongest when your best pets are already in the pen before the event starts. If a valuable mutation lands on a weak throwaway pet, the window did not do much for your progress.
Bloodmoon is the biggest normal priority here. Bloodmoon Grapes feed into the Bloodbound route, and Bloodbound is listed at 2.5x. Use those items on strong base-BPS pets instead of spending them on early catches you will replace.
Valentine's weather can also be strong when it is available. Lovestruck is listed at 2.25x, but the route depends on event items or duplicate-pet setup, so treat it as an event-progress window rather than a weather you can always plan around.
Cosmic Shower, Blizzard, Snowy, and Gravebound sit in the next practical group. Cosmic, Frozen, and Fractured are useful 1.5x routes, while Gravebound also connects to Skeleton-style machine progress. Thunderstorm and Admin Cloud are smaller mutation bonuses, but Thunderstorm can still be worth using because it also connects to Lightning Dragon. Underwater and Volcanic Eruption are more situational because their listed mutation multipliers are lower, so use them when you also care about the matching spawn or route.
For exact multiplier comparisons, the Catch And Tame mutations page is the cleaner reference.
Use spawn weather only when you are already in position
Spawn weather rewards route prep more than reaction speed. If Sandstorm starts and you still need to travel, swap gear, or find the right island, part of the window is already gone.
Sandstorm is one of the best examples. It can matter for Camel, Griffin, and Basilisk, but Basilisk needs stronger lasso prep. Use a Sandstorm Totem when you are already ready for the desert or Sky Island route.
Cosmic Shower is similar. It is strong because it can support Cosmic Fruit, Cosmic mutation progress, and Cosmic Griffin, but that value comes from being ready when the weather starts. If you are chasing Cosmic Griffin, do not spend most of the window on unrelated catches.
Blizzard is useful when snow-route pets matter. Yeti, Polar Bear, Christmas Dragon, Mammoth, and Festive Penguin are the kind of targets that make the weather worth watching, especially when Frozen can also apply to pen pets. Snowy is more seasonal, so use it when Christmas-style progress or Candy value is actually active.
Underwater is more of a scanning and mobility window. Use the flood effect to move and check ocean routes quickly. It is less about raw mutation value and more about using the map change before the weather ends.
The Catch And Tame pets list is the better place to check each pet's rarity, biome, BPS, and route details before spending a rare totem.
Save rare totems for planned sessions
Totems are easy to waste because the weather sounds useful even when your setup is not ready. Before using one, ask what the next 10 minutes should accomplish.
Use a Rain Totem early if easier catching and Turtle progress help your current stage. Use a Thunderstorm Totem when your pen has pets worth upgrading and you can watch the Dragon Island route. Save Sandstorm Totem for focused desert, Basilisk, Camel, or Griffin farming. Save Cosmic Totem for a session where Cosmic Griffin, Cosmic Fruit, and pen setup all matter. Save Aurora Totem for serious luck plans, not random downtime.
Blizzard Totem is best when you are ready to farm snow-route pets or Frozen mutation value. If those goals are not active, keep the totem for later.
The Catch And Tame items page covers the broader totem and weather-item list, including weather consumables and Lucky Block routes.
Treat admin and seasonal weather carefully
Admin Cloud can be valuable if it appears, but it is rare developer-triggered weather. Do not build a farming plan around it. If it shows up, put strong pets in position and take the bonus while it lasts.
Seasonal or event weather should be handled the same way. Snowy, Valentine's, Bloodmoon, and Gravebound can be very useful, but their best value depends on whether the matching event items, pets, machines, or rewards are currently relevant. Use them with a target in mind, and avoid spending the whole window figuring out what the event does.
If you want the shortest rule, use weather like this: Aurora for general luck, Bloodmoon for strong mutation value, Cosmic Shower for Cosmic routes, Sandstorm for specific spawn chasing, Blizzard for snow farming, Rainy for early comfort, and Sunny for prep. That keeps each weather window tied to a real goal instead of turning every event into a random 10-minute scramble.
