Mystic Arts are special abilities in Where Winds Meet that sit apart from the weapon-based Martial Arts you use in everyday fights. They cover a wide mix of jobs. Some hit hard or hold enemies in place, some help you sneak or cross the map quickly, and others help with puzzles or with spotting things nearby. You equip the ones you want and use them when the moment calls for it.

What Mystic Arts Are and How They Work
Mystic Arts are separate from your Martial Arts, the weapon-based moves tied to what you're holding. That separation is what makes them flexible. You can switch weapons and still bring the same arts along, so they stay useful across different weapons and fights.
You equip them from the Mystic Arts display on the right side of the screen, next to your Martial Arts, and more slots open up as you progress. Using an art costs Vitality, shown as a white circle in that display, and stronger arts cost more of it. Vitality refills when you hit enemies with your weapon, so you can't just spam arts nonstop.
A few movement and passive arts don't use the wheel at all. Instead, they work from their own controls or come from talent choices, so you won't always be pressing a button to use them.
How to Get Mystic Arts in Where Winds Meet
There isn't one single path to them, and there's no tree you work down in order. You pick them up by exploring, talking to characters, finishing quests, solving puzzles and taking part in challenge fights. That's why new arts keep turning up as you play.
Skill Theft is one of the recurring ways to learn an art. It lets you learn a technique by watching or stealing it from a nearby person or animal. Some arts come from challenge rematches, where you fill a study meter by deflecting the enemy's attacks and then win the fight.
Progress unlocks others too. Some come from nodes in the Basic Talent tree, including Divine Counter and Wind Sense, and exploration and sign-in rewards add more. Partnership and Discipleship progression unlock the social arts. Threefold Skywalk, Skywalk Dash, Mighty Drop, Star Shift and Abyss Dive are available from the start. Others take several steps, and Contortion is a good example, since it needs a level requirement, a daily quest and a round of Skill Theft.
Combat and Utility Mystic Arts
This group is built for fights, but it also helps you out of combat. Some arts deal heavy damage, some hit a whole crowd, and others control the battlefield by pulling, knocking down, immobilizing or blinding enemies. Still others protect you with shields, damage reduction or recovery, or clear status effects from you. Ghost Bind can hold a whole group still, but it won't touch powerful enemies or players.
Two ideas come up often. Defense break arts break an enemy's defense, and they share a cooldown, so you can't use them back to back. Super Armor, which some arts grant while they play out, keeps hits from interrupting your move.
Plenty of this group also works outside fights. Tai Chi can gather leaves, stir up fish and work certain objects, and Nightborne Glow lights dark areas for a short time. Meridian Touch can help with puzzles, and Veil of Stillness gives you a brief window of stealth that ends if you turn to face an enemy head-on.
Movement and Exploration Mystic Arts
These arts are about getting around the map. The flying and gliding ones, Thousand-Mile Flight, Meteor Flight, Fan Glider and Wind Rider, let you cross open land, mountains and valleys from the air. The Wallstride arts run along walls and across eaves, and one of them also dashes over long gaps.
They don't work everywhere, though. Major factions restrict the flying and gliding arts, and they also restrict Wallstride. Raise your Exploration with a faction and you earn its keepsakes, which let you move freely.
The Threefold Skywalk group changes how you handle jumps. Threefold Skywalk lets you jump up to three times in a row, Skywalk Dash sends you forward in midair after one of those jumps, and Mighty Drop ends the move with a rapid landing. Safe Mighty Drop adds protection from disease and fall damage when Mighty Drop lands, once you've mastered Silent Fall.
Some arts change your form. Contortion shrinks you to squeeze through tight spaces, but while you're small you can't attack with weapons or climb, ride or swim, and combat ends the effect. Hitting an obstacle as you return to normal size can cause serious injury. Moonleap Morph turns you into a carp that glides over Hexi's sand, Idle Wind turns you into a breeze for crossing Qinchuan, and Abyss Dive lets you dive underwater in designated waters such as Crimson Cliff. Dives have a time limit, and you're forced back to the surface when it runs out.
General and Contextual Mystic Arts
These arts are less about one big move and more about timing, awareness and quiet help in the background. Star Shift is a good example. It spends an Insight Point just before an attack lands to deflect it, and you start with a couple of Insight Points. If the timing feels hard, turn on the deflection assist in settings.
Divine Counter works from the other side. After a well-timed defense against an enemy's technique, you counter, and that slows the enemy's Endurance recovery for a while.
Touch of Death is a finisher. It strikes an enemy's vital point from behind, and it can defeat weaker enemies outright. Still Waters slows nearby enemies while you hold your breath, though it drains your Endurance as long as you do. Wind Sense picks up approaching enemies through wind currents and highlights people or items of interest nearby, which helps when you're exploring.
Social and Special Mystic Arts
These arts are tied to playing with others and to a few special situations. Paired Radiance comes from Partnership progression. Reach Partnership level 3 and you get it from the Bond menu. With a partner, it teleports you both to a random ally and runs a shared sequence of three poses, earning up to 50 Partnership Points a week.
Cyclone Spin is the Discipleship version. A Master who reaches Discipleship level 4 gets it from the Mentor menu. When the Master is teamed with Disciples, up to five of them can leap on and sweep through enemies together, which earns up to 50 Discipleship Points a week. Both arts work in Hero's Realm, Sword Trial and Co-op Rooms.
Snow Lion Form turns you into a Snow Lion with its own moveset, including a pounce, a belly-flop and a rolling snowball attack. It only works in Liangzhou. You get it by completing Real or Fake Snow Lion northeast of Snowblossom Ridge, and that quest stays available after its event.
Goosy Slide is the lighter pick. During an eligible Campaign Challenge, it has a 25% chance to clear the current stage instantly, with two uses a day, and some campaigns don't allow it. You earn it by completing any one campaign in Bodhi Sea, Gleaming Abyss, the Palace of Annals or Halo Peak.
Best Mystic Arts in Where Winds Meet
The developers don't publish rankings, and the best pick depends on what you're doing. Still, a few show up again and again in popular builds. Dragon's Breath and Drunken Poet are a strong pair because both use the Intoxicated state, which comes from drinking. Cast Dragon's Breath first to apply its burn, then spend the Intoxicated state on Drunken Poet.
Flute of the Tides turns up in most PvE builds, and its sound ripples can hit several targets in each sequence. Serene Breeze shows up across PvP builds, and it clears your afflictions even while you're staggered, controlled or silenced.
Treat these as trends rather than rankings. Which arts suit you depends on the mode you play and the weapon path you've chosen, and builds shift with every balance patch.
Two more are worth knowing. Get Contortion early, since you'll need it for some of Hidden Mountain's world bosses. Blinding Mist sets up Touch of Death, because it leaves enemies unable to fight for 5 seconds, which gives you time to land that follow-up. It doesn't work on mighty enemies, though.
FAQ
How do I equip and switch Mystic Arts?
Open the Develop menu by pressing the Options button and choosing it from the wheel, then pick the arts you want to equip there. In play, press R2 or RT to open the Mystic Arts wheel, then press a face button to use the art in that slot. On PlayStation those are Square, Triangle, Circle or X, and on Xbox they're X, Y, B or A. Once you've unlocked a second wheel, press up or down on the left-side directional buttons to switch between them.
How do I find where to unlock a Mystic Art?
Open a locked art and choose How to Learn. The game points you to the exact spot on the map where you can unlock it, and that could be a side quest, an NPC or a puzzle at that location.
Do Mystic Arts work the same in co-op and multiplayer?
Not always. Still Waters doesn't work in Co-op or Online modes, and Honking Havoc's breath-hold effect is turned off in Co-op and Multiplayer. Celestial Seize can't disarm in Co-op or Online modes, and in Co-op only the host can use its pull. Star Shift's deflection assist is also disabled in Trial, Breakthrough and Taiping Mausoleum, and Perception Forest has its own rules, so an art that feels strong elsewhere may read differently there.
How do Mystic Arts get stronger?
Each art grows through breakthrough, which moves it up through tiers and stages. Ranking up takes progress as well as the resources each tier requires. Breakthrough materials come mostly from gathering, and the game guarantees you'll get some after enough gathering attempts.
