The Wandering Village is a city-builder where you run a village on the back of Onbu, a huge creature that keeps moving through different climates. Crops and plants are the food, medicine, water and wood your village depends on. Farm crops, berry bushes, fish and kelp feed your people, mushrooms feed Onbu, and herbs heal the sick. Because Onbu keeps moving, the weather under your plants keeps changing, so planting takes some thought.

How Farming Works in The Wandering Village
Farms are cheap to build. Crops can only go on grassland, so decide where your fields will be first. You mark out plots, and the farmers plant them.
Temperature decides most of what happens to a crop. Crops in acceptable conditions grow at 60 percent speed, and deadly conditions make them decay instead. Check the temperature meter before you plant, since it shows what will grow well on that ground, and never plant anywhere marked red.
Which Farm Crops Handle Heat and Cold
Beets, corn, tomatoes, wheat and cactus each handle weather differently, so the crop you pick should suit the ground. Beets keep growing even in freezing temperatures, which makes them a safe bet in the cold. Corn is the opposite. It grows best in hot weather, slows down in torrid heat, and dies in freezing, cold or normal temperatures.
Tomatoes can't handle torrid heat, and they're thirsty, using four times as much water as corn. Wheat can't take extreme heat or cold, so it does best in milder weather. Cactus is built for the heat and thrives in hot and torrid temperatures.
How to Water and Fertilize Your Crops
Water comes from Air Wells, which make it when the air is humid enough, and Water Tanks, which store it. Cactus gives water too, which helps when supplies run low. Build enough Air Wells and Water Tanks for normal days, and keep a reserve for droughts, since a dry spell can leave your fields thirsty.
For fertilizer, you need compost, which a Compost Heap makes. Compost boosts the harvest from your farms and from your Herbalist and Mycologist buildings, so each crop gives you more.
How Crops Turn Into Food
Villagers can eat raw crops, but Kitchens turn beets, berries and tomatoes into dishes like beet soup, berry muesli and grilled tomatoes. As your village grows, people want better food, and these dishes count as higher quality than raw crops.
Wheat takes a longer route. It's ground into flour at a Windmill, then baked into bread at a Bakery, so it needs more buildings before it starts feeding anyone.
Berry Bushes and the Berry Gatherer
Berry bushes are one of the simplest food sources in the village, and a Berry Gatherer hut is how you harvest them. The bushes won't grow in freezing or torrid weather, so keep them in milder spots.
Bushes spread slowly on their own, and the Berry Gatherer replants more from Berry Seeds, so a patch grows over time as long as the gatherer has seeds to use.
Mushrooms and Other Mycologist Fungi
The Mycologist grows fungi on dirt plots. Mushrooms are the main crop here, and they're mostly ingredients for Onbu's food.
Rock Trumpet gives you stone when harvested. Healshroom is grown from herbs and goes into Onbu medicine. Poisonous Sporeling is grown from Fungal Spores.
Herbs for Healing Villagers and Onbu
The Herbalist grows herbs, and their main job is healing. A Village Doctor uses them to cure poisoned villagers.
Herbs also go into Healshrooms and Onbu medicine, so they help keep Onbu healthy too.
Fish and Kelp from the Aquafarm
The Aquafarm raises fish and kelp, two foods that come from the water. Like farm crops, they depend on climate, and deadly conditions make them decay.
The Aquafarm needs some fish or kelp to start with, and a Fishery handles that gathering.
Trees from the Tree Nursery
Trees supply the wood your village needs, and Woodcutting Camps do the chopping. The Tree Nursery is the building that plants them, and it uses compost for each new tree.
How Toxic Plants Affect Your Crops
Toxic plants are one of the biggest threats to your crops, because they spread across your land and can ruin what's growing there. A Decontaminator burns them away, and it runs on biogas or bile.
FAQ
Do I need research to grow mushrooms?
No. Mushroom is the only Mycologist crop you can plant without research first. Rock Trumpet, Healshroom and Poisonous Sporeling all need to be researched before you can grow them.
How do I get more Berry Seeds?
Uproot a bush that's already been picked clean, and it gives you one or two Berry Seeds. The Berry Gatherer then plants new bushes on open grass within about six tiles of it, for as long as it has seeds to use.
Does compost make crops grow faster?
No. Compost raises how much each crop yields rather than how fast it grows, and the Farm's Crop Fertilizer upgrade raises the yield further.
Can Healshrooms grow in hot weather?
No. Healshrooms can't be grown in hot or torrid temperatures, so plant them where the weather is milder.
