What Are Lanterns in The Mimic?
A lantern is the light your character carries through The Mimic's dark areas, so it's what lets you see where you're going. Each lantern has its own design, and they come from different parts of the game. The Default Lantern is free for everyone, so you never need to pay just to have a light.
How to Get Lanterns in The Mimic
Most lanterns come from playing the story. Each chapter can be cleared on Normal or on Nightmare, which is the harder version of the same chapter. Finishing either one earns a badge, a Roblox achievement that shows you reached a goal, and some Nightmare clears also award a lantern, so the harder mode is worth the effort if you want a full collection.
Other lanterns come from different places. The Halloween Trials event has handed out lanterns, and a few are tied to secret challenges or to a character's request.
How Yen Unlocks Lanterns in the Shop
Some lanterns are sold in the shop for Yen, the in-game money you earn by playing. For later chapters, starting with Jealousy's Book Chapter III, a chapter's Yen lanterns stay locked until you've cleared that chapter on Nightmare at least once. That means story progress decides what you can buy, even when you already have enough Yen. Spirits are a separate currency, used to buy emotes in the same shop, so keep the two apart when you're saving up.

To set one, open your Inventory from the lobby, find the lantern you want, and pick its skins option.

Does Control Chapter I on Nightmare give a lantern?
No, it gives a badge only. The first lantern tied to Nightmare comes from Chapter 2 of Control's Book, which awards the Butterfly Lantern.
How do I earn Yen in The Mimic?
Yen comes from Nightmare chapters, through objectives and coins scattered around the map. The same harder runs that unlock a chapter's shop lanterns are also where you build up the Yen to buy them.
Can I still get an event lantern after its event ends?
Nothing guarantees it, so don't assume an event lantern is gone for good. Check the in-game shop and the game's official updates when a new event starts.
