Tales of Eternia Remastered is a role-playing game where you can cook dishes outside battle. Each recipe is a dish that heals your party, cures status problems such as poison, or gives a temporary boost to your stats. Most recipes are taught by a chef who hides in towns, and master recipes are made by mastering a set of earlier dishes. You can collect and keep track of every recipe as you find it.

How Cooking Works in Tales of Eternia Remastered
Cooking happens outside battle, and the dish you make applies to your whole party. Each recipe restores HP or TP, cures a status problem, or gives a temporary boost to one of your stats. Every dish needs its own ingredients, so you can only cook it when you have what it calls for.
You start with one recipe, the Dark Pot, and it's the only one you don't have to find. Its ingredients are random, so what you get can vary a lot. It's best used for experimenting rather than planning around.
How to Find Wonder Chef Recipes
Most recipes come from the Wonder Chef, and he isn't marked on the map. He hides inside everyday objects around town, such as a potted plant or a snowman. Examine the right object, and he reveals himself, hands over the recipe and vanishes.
Because nothing points to his hiding spots, the only way to find them is to look. Examine anything that seems slightly out of place in each town you visit. A plant or ornament that looks like part of the scenery could be the one holding a recipe.
How to Make Master Recipes
The master recipes aren't taught by the Wonder Chef. Each one is unlocked by mastering a set of earlier dishes, and one character has to master the whole set on their own. Splitting the work across party members doesn't count, so it's best to pick one cook for each master dish and stick with them.
Cooking skill is tracked for each character separately, and the more often someone cooks a dish, the better they get at it. That's why keeping the same cook matters. Every master recipe also needs Purple Satay, which is sold in Katz Village, so stock up before you start.
Which Recipes Matter Most
Fruit Sandwich is the strongest choice for the whole party. It's a master recipe that fully restores HP and TP for everyone, so it's the go-to dish when the entire party is low.
Seafood Stew is another master recipe worth the effort. It restores HP and TP and cures status problems in one meal.
Potato Casserole and Mabo Curry work differently. They're the only recipes with a lasting effect, each permanently raising maximum HP or TP by one point, so the benefit stays for the rest of the game.
Among the Wonder Chef recipes, Cream Stew and Sweet Rice are the ones to pick. Each restores a large amount of HP and cures status problems, which makes them dependable when your party is in trouble.
FAQ
How much does Purple Satay cost?
Purple Satay costs 200 Gald each, which is more than three times the price of Red Satay. Making one of each master recipe takes 1,600 Gald worth of it alone, so set that money aside before you start mastering dishes.
Can I miss a Wonder Chef recipe?
It's possible. Some of his hiding spots only appear after certain story events or at night, and a few can only be collected on your first visit, before a town changes. Search each town carefully the first time, and check earlier towns again as the story moves on.
