In Soulmask, a survival game, your soul is tied to a mysterious mask, and you start with nothing in an ancient, primitive land. You can play it alone or with friends online, and the story begins when you escape a sacrificial ritual. Everything starts with the basics, so you gather wood, stone, and food first, since every tool and building you make later depends on them.
Once you have materials, you craft tools, weapons, and armor, then use them to build everything from thatch huts to fortresses. Food and healing matter just as much, because you and your tribesmen need them to keep going after a fight. As you go, you recruit tribesmen who can take over some of the gathering and crafting, which frees you up to explore, hunt, and fight. The mask also lets you transfer your consciousness into any tribesman and play as them.
Your progress is measured in Awareness Strength, which rises as you kill enemies, harvest stone, and build, and higher levels open new tiers of technology, weapons, and mask upgrades. The bigger goals are taking on bosses, labyrinths, and barbarian cities, and growing a small camp into a fortified settlement where tribesmen run the work for you. Version 1.0 took Soulmask out of Early Access in April 2026 and added Shifting Sands, a desert expansion with airships.

Masks
Masks are worn on the face and give your character passive bonuses, and each one has a Mimicry mode that unlocks at a set level for stronger abilities. You choose one of three starting masks when you create your character, then unlock others through Ancient Ruins, Holy Ruins, bosses and crafting. Each mask levels up through its own nodes, so the one you commit to shapes how you fight, travel and survive.
Creatures
Creatures in Soulmask are the wild animals and beasts that roam the world, from calm animals to aggressive ones. Some can be tamed for use as mounts, livestock or pets through traps, hatched eggs or direct taming, while many can only be hunted. Hunting gives you meat, hides, bone, blood and other materials, and the elite creatures found in beast lairs drop premium and rare versions of them.
Weapon Types
Weapon types in Soulmask are the broad families of melee and ranged weapons you can craft and use, from blades and spears to bows, hammers and whips. Each type has its own skill tree that grows only while you use it, and it starts you with one signature ability before more unlock over time. Progress stays with each type, so you can switch weapons without losing what you've built. Pick a type based on whether you mostly fight monsters, other players or both, since each one suits a different style.
Soulmask gameplay tips
- Pick your mode before you create the world. Tribe Mode suits players who want to build and lead a large, automated tribe, Survival Mode keeps the focus on your own survival and exploring, and Warrior Mode cuts down survival chores in exchange for tougher fights. The mode is set when the world is created, so choose it before you begin.
- Recruit tribesmen early, then give each one a job. Every recruit has their own traits and skills, so match them to work they're good at. Tribe Management shows each tribesman's current task and every workstation, which makes it easy to spot where production has stalled.
- Build your base beside trees, stone, water, and food. You and your tribesmen walk to everything you gather, so a base near those resources cuts out a lot of travel.
- Practice the perfect parry with a spear and shield. Time your block to the white flash and the enemy is stunned, leaving it open to a power attack. The spear keeps its reach while you hold a shield, which makes it one of the strongest early options against tougher enemies.
- Choose a mask that matches how you like to fight, then keep upgrading it. Civilization builds toward stamina, armor, and rescue skills, Conquest toward quiet movement and surprise attacks, and Rich toward precision and rapid-fire shooting. Each mask has its own skill tree, so stick with one long enough to see it grow.
- Place a campfire before you enter a dungeon or start a long fight. Your character respawns at the last campfire you used, so a nearby one turns a death into a short walk back.
