All 63 Potions and Their Effects in Slay the Spire 2

Updated on November 1, 2026 (3 days ago)

Slay the Spire 2 is a card game where you build a deck and fight your way up through a different path each run. Potions are the bottles you carry alongside your cards. Drink one during a fight and you get an instant boost, like heavy damage, a shield called Block, or healing. Knowing what each one does can make the difference in a tough battle.

How Potions Work in Slay the Spire 2

A potion is a single-use item. You drink it, it takes effect right away, and it's gone. Drinking one costs no Energy, the resource you spend to play cards each turn, and it doesn't count as playing a card. That means a potion adds power on top of the cards you already have.

Most potions are meant for battles, so you'll usually drink them mid-fight when a boost matters most.

Potion Rarities: Common, Uncommon and Rare

Potions are sorted into groups by how often you find them. Common potions show up most often, and they're mostly simple ones like Block, Fire and Strength. Uncommon potions sit in the middle, and Rare potions are the hardest to find in a normal run.

Event and special potions form a small separate group. You get them from specific places rather than regular drops.

Character Potions and the Shared Pool

Potions come in two kinds. Most are shared, so any character can find them. Each of the five characters, Ironclad, Silent, Defect, Necrobinder and Regent, also has three potions of their own, one for each of the Common, Uncommon and Rare groups. A Silent run can find Poison Potion, Cunning Potion and Ghost in a Jar, and other characters can't.

Because the shared pool is much larger, most of the potions you find will come from it.

Where to Find Potions in Slay the Spire 2

Winning fights is one of the main ways to get potions. Elite enemies, the tougher fights, add extra chances, so they're worth paying attention to. Events, the Merchant and some card effects can also hand you potions.

Opening choices at the start of a run and some relics add potions too. The Phial Holster option, for example, gives you two random potions and an extra slot to hold them. You can only carry a few at a time, so it's worth deciding which ones to keep.

Event and Special Potions

Foul Potion is one of the more useful picks in this group. It deals 12 damage to everyone in the fight, including you, but you can also throw one at the Merchant for 100 Gold instead. Glowwater Potion works differently: it exhausts your hand, which takes those cards out of play for the rest of the fight, and then draws ten new cards. Potion-Shaped Rock is simpler and deals 15 damage.

Which Potions Matter Most

Some potions change how an entire fight goes, and those are the ones players tend to hold onto. Fairy in a Bottle is a safety net that can save you from a fatal blow. Gigantification Potion makes your next attack deal triple damage, which can take down a tough elite in one swing. Fortifier triples the Block you already have, so it shines when your deck is built around a shield.

Duplicator plays your next card twice, and Liquid Memories brings a card back from your discard pile into your hand for free. Entropic Brew fills your empty slots with random potions, which is handy when you have room to spare.

The basic stat potions, like Strength, Dexterity, Flex and Speed, give smaller boosts and tend to help less in big fights. They still have a place when your deck is built around them, but stronger picks are usually the better choice.

When to Drink Your Potions

Most players save their best potions for elite fights and bosses, where a shorter battle means less damage taken. Using one on an ordinary enemy early in a run often wastes it. Early on you can be a bit more relaxed, since you'll have more chances to find potions.

Matching the potion to the fight matters too. Poison Potion is strong against enemies with lots of health but adds little in a quick fight. Block is best used on the turn you need it, since it wears off before your next turn.

Try not to walk into the final boss with empty slots. Holding a couple of potions for that fight is usually a good move.

FAQ

Q.

Do potions stay with you between floors?

Yes. A potion you pick up stays in your slots until you use it, so you can save one for a boss several floors later.

Q.

What happens if you die holding a Fairy in a Bottle?

Instead of dropping to zero, you're healed to 30% of your max HP, and the fight keeps going. The potion is discarded when it triggers, so it only saves you once.
