SCUM is an open-world survival game set on a prison island, where you play as a prisoner trying to stay alive. SCUM vehicles let you cover ground faster than on foot and carry more loot, but they only help once you know how to repair them and keep them fueled.

What Vehicles Are in SCUM
SCUM sorts its vehicles into four main groups: cars and trucks, motorcycles and ATVs, boats, and aircraft. There are also human-powered options, like bicycles and wheelbarrows, that run on your own effort. Each group suits a different kind of trip, so the right pick depends on where you are headed and how much you need to carry.
How Vehicle Parts Work in SCUM
Vehicles in SCUM are built from parts, so you can add, remove or swap pieces one at a time. A car needs at least three wheels to run, though fewer than four causes problems. It also needs a driver's seat, an engine and a battery, and the alternator is what keeps that battery charged. The engine can only be obtained and installed at the Mechanic, while armor is another part you can add.
How to Repair a Vehicle in SCUM
Car repairs use a Car Repair Kit, which wears down with each use. You also need a Car Jack for tires, doors, the hatch, the hood, the battery and the alternator. Medium Engineering skill lets you do the work yourself and skip the fee, while lower skill means paying the Mechanic to do it on the car lift. Boats and the RIS are the exceptions, since neither uses a Car Repair Kit and both are repaired with a Tool Box instead.
Fuel, Batteries and Driving Skill in SCUM
Vehicles run on gasoline, which you carry in a Gasoline Canister and pour into the tank. A car's battery only charges while you drive, and only when an alternator is installed. Batteries bought and installed at the Mechanic arrive fully charged.
Driving skill changes how a car handles. It affects top speed, braking, how reliably the engine starts, how well the car turns, and how often it stalls and how gear shifts go.
Seats and Storage in SCUM
Storage is counted in slots, the small boxes in a vehicle's inventory. The WolfsWagen and the Laika each seat four, but the Laika has the larger cargo grid. The Dirtbike seats two riders and has no cargo space of its own.
Boats and Planes in SCUM
On the water, you have the Motorboat, the Dinghy, the Big Raft, the Small Raft and the SUP paddleboard. The Dinghy is an inflatable boat with an engine.
The air options are the Kinglet Duster and the Kinglet Mariner seaplane. The Mariner's name tells you how it works: it is built to take off and land on water.
Which SCUM Vehicle to Choose
For hauling loot, the Laika is the better car, since it has more cargo room.
For off-road trips, the Dirtbike and the RIS are the two to look at. If you would rather skip fuel altogether, the bicycles and wheelbarrows, such as the Mountain Bike, City Bike and Metal Wheelbarrow, run on your own effort.
FAQ
Can you store car parts in a WolfsWagen in SCUM?
Yes. If your Engineering skill is too low to fit a door right away, the WolfsWagen's inventory can hold it until you are ready.
Do you need a Car Jack to take armor off a car in SCUM?
No. Armor can come off without one, but you need a Car Jack to put it back on.
