R.E.P.O. is a co-op horror game where your team hunts for valuables in haunted levels, hauls them to extraction points, and earns surplus for every one it delivers. Upgrades are permanent boosts for your character, like running faster, taking more hits, or jumping a second time. You buy them at the Service Station between levels with that surplus.

What Are R.E.P.O. Upgrades?
Upgrades are permanent boosts for your character, not items you pick up and use during a level. Your character is a robot, and upgrades mostly cover staying alive, getting around, and hauling loot. Some are simple stat boosts, while others add new moves.
Movement is where most of the new moves come from. Tumble is the quick dodge your robot does by curling up into a ball. Tumble Launch carries that dodge farther, Extra Jump gives you a second jump in the air, and Tumble Wings let you float and glide for a short time, which softens falls. Tumble Climb adds wall climbing to the tumble move.
Others keep you in the fight. Health raises your maximum HP, Stamina gives you more energy to run and climb, and Crouch Rest helps you recover stamina faster while you crouch. For hauling, Strength makes lifting easier, and Range lets you grab things from farther away.
Death Head Battery is the one that works after you die, while you can still control your Death Head. You'll only ever need it when things have already gone wrong.
How to Buy R.E.P.O. Upgrades at the Service Station
Between levels, your team visits the Service Station and spends surplus there. You earn surplus by bringing valuables to extraction points, and hauling more earns more, but every extra valuable also raises the risk of running into monsters.
Stock isn't fixed, so the upgrade you want may not be on the shelf.
Buying doesn't apply the boost right away. The upgrade shows up in your truck as you head into the next level, and using it is what gives you the boost.
Are R.E.P.O. Upgrades Permanent and Personal?
Yes to both. Once an upgrade is applied, it stays with your character, so the boost keeps working from then on.
It's also personal. The boost applies only to the player who bought it, so teammates don't get a share. That makes each purchase a choice about one player, not the whole team, so think about who will get the most out of a pick before you spend your surplus on it.
Which R.E.P.O. Upgrades Should You Buy First?
Sprint Speed, Health, Tumble Launch, and Extra Jump are the picks that help most in a typical run. Sprint Speed lets you run faster, which matters when monsters are chasing you, though faster sprinting also burns more stamina. Health is the safety pick, since it gives you more room for mistakes.
Tumble Launch is the affordable pick and a strong escape tool. Extra Jump costs more, so it's usually a later buy.
Map Player Count is a team pick, since opening the map shows how many players are still alive. Death Head Battery is the niche pick, and neither one is sold in solo games.
No upgrade replaces careful play, though. Running away is still the best defense, so think of upgrades as a safety net.
Can You Reroll R.E.P.O. Upgrades?
Yes. The Upgrades shelves at the Service Station have a reroll button, which gives you a fresh set of options to pick from. Rerolling costs Tax Tokens, which are separate from surplus, so you'll need some saved up before you can use it.
A reroll is most useful when nothing on the shelves fits your plan, so you aren't stuck buying a pick you don't need.
FAQ
Can you buy the same upgrade more than once?
It depends on the upgrade. Map Player Count is one per save and doesn't stack, but Tumble Climb gets better as you buy more of it, using less stamina each time.
How do you get Tax Tokens?
Find boxes inside a level and bring them to an extraction point. Each box becomes one Tax Token, but boxes don't count toward the quota, so you can't meet a level's goal with them alone.
Does Crouch Rest work while you tumble?
Yes. Crouch Rest also kicks in when your robot is in the tumble state and not moving, so your stamina recovers there too.
