R.E.P.O. is a co-op horror game for up to six players, where you work for the Tax Man. Your team heads into frightening, ruined places to recover valuables, and hostile monsters will try to stop you along the way. The game runs on physics, so cargo ranges from heavy pianos to fragile ceramics, and your team has to plan how to carry each one.
Each run is split into levels, and every level has a quota, the target for how much valuable loot your team must bring back, shown in the top-right corner. You search rooms for valuables, including under beds, in lockers and behind furniture, and load them into the cart, which shows the running total on its back. Bring the loot to an extraction point and fill its quota, then step clear once it's done, because the platform will crush anyone standing on it. Each extraction point works only once, and when the last one is filled, head back to the truck to finish the level.
Between levels, you visit the Service Station, where the in-game money, called SURPLUS, buys health packs, upgrades, weapons and tools to get ready for the next level. The goal is to keep meeting quotas that grow harder, with more loot to find and more extraction points to fill as you go, and missing one sends you to Disposal, where your save file is wiped.

Monsters
R.E.P.O.'s monsters are the main threat to teams hauling valuables out of the game's creepy locations. Each one has a danger level from one star to three stars, and each one notices players in its own way, through sight, sound or how it's treated. Some stay harmless unless you pick them up or block their path, while others grab, trap or fling players. Learning how each one behaves is what keeps a run going.
Weapons
Weapons in R.E.P.O. include melee tools, guns, grenades, placed mines, staffs and the Leaf Blower, and most are bought at the Service Station with money earned from extractions. Melee weapons, guns, staffs, the Rubber Duck and the Leaf Blower run on charge, which Energy Crystals refill at the recharge machine in your truck. Grenades are single use, and each mine or Trap Zap covers one deployment. For big monsters, the Tranq Gun, Sledge Hammer and Photon Blaster are strong picks, while mines and staffs are better for controlling a fight.
Upgrades
Upgrades are permanent boosts for your character, bought at the Service Station between levels with surplus earned from valuables. They cover staying alive, getting around, and hauling loot, and some add new moves such as Extra Jump and Tumble Wings. Each one helps only the player who buys it, and the Upgrades shelves can be rerolled for Tax Tokens. Death Head Battery is the odd one out, since it only matters after your character dies.
Maps
R.E.P.O.'s maps are McJannek Station, Swiftbroom Academy, Headman Manor and the Museum of Human Art. Each run loads one of them at random, and each has its own layout, hazards and lighting. Headman Manor stands out for its narrow halls and bottomless pits on higher levels, while the Museum of Human Art is the darkest, so bring your flashlight.

R.E.P.O. gameplay tips
- Search under beds, in lockers and behind furniture. Loot hides in all of those spots, so checking only the open floor leaves valuables behind.
- Carry valuables with care. Dropping them or knocking them against walls lowers their value or breaks them, which makes the quota harder to reach.
- Call a teammate for big items. Big items need two players to lift. If you're alone, you can only push them with your body.
- Stock up on health packs early. Prices at the Service Station climb with each level, so health packs cost less the sooner you buy them.
- Crouch when monsters are close. Crouching makes it easier to stay hidden, and you can crawl under tables and chairs to slip past.
- Use proximity voice chat. The game is built around verbal teamwork, so calling out monsters, loot and extraction points keeps everyone on the same page.
