OUTERPLANE is a strategy RPG built around heroes, the characters you recruit, train and send into battle in teams of four. Each hero has a role that shapes how they fight, an element that matters against certain enemies, and a star rating that shows how rare they are.

What Heroes Do in OUTERPLANE
Heroes are the fighters on your roster. In a battle, you line up four of them, and each one uses its own skills to attack, defend, heal or support the rest of the team. A team works best when its four members cover different jobs. Four strong attackers with no healer will struggle against tougher enemies, so it pays to think about what your team is missing before you add another hero.
Hero Roles: Defender, Striker, Ranger, Mage and Healer
Heroes fall into five roles. Defenders are the front-line tanks, with high Defense and HP, so they take hits and pass boosts to their allies. Early story content can often be cleared without one.
Strikers are the core damage dealers, and they can take a few hits too. Many can strike several enemies at once, which makes them a flexible pick. Rangers are built around speed, so they act often and help the team stay ahead in turn order. Mages deal damage with area attacks and crowd control, which means skills that stop or slow enemies, and many can serve as a team's main source of damage. Healers keep allies alive and provide key boosts.
Elements and How They Shape Your Team
Heroes and enemies each belong to one of five elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Light and Dark. The elements work as an advantage system, so some matchups hit harder than others, and it's worth checking an enemy's element before you pick your team. Class variety usually matters more than element variety, as long as the team has no big weak spots, and many players build one team per element over time.
What the Star Ratings Mean
Each hero has a star rating from 1 to 3 that shows how rare they are. Rarity affects how often a hero shows up in summons, so 3-star heroes are the hardest to pull and 1-star heroes are the most common.
Plenty of 2-star heroes still earn a place on strong teams, because a hero's value depends on its role and how well it fits with the rest of the team.
How to Get Heroes
Most heroes come from summons, which the game also calls recruiting. Summons use Ether, which comes free or paid, and Special Recruitment Tickets. Regular heroes are meant to be pulled with tickets, so Ether is better saved for limited banners.
Summons aren't the only route. Unlocking a 3-star hero without recruiting costs 250 hero pieces, and guilds offer pieces for certain heroes. The Doppelgänger Challenge lets you farm regular heroes you don't own. New heroes can take about three months to show up in the Doppelgänger Challenge and Custom Recruit, so they aren't always available through those routes right away.
Limited and Premium Heroes
Limited heroes come from seasonal, festival and collab banners, and you can only recruit them while that banner is running. Each pull adds Limited Mileage, a counter that fills as you recruit and can be spent on the banner's featured hero.
Premium heroes come from their own banner, where you can change the featured hero at any time. That means you can aim for the one you need instead of waiting for a random pull to land on it.
How to Level Up and Transcend Heroes
Heroes gain experience from battles and from food items, which come in several sizes. Leveling is slow at the start, so Bandit Chase stages are a good source of food early on.
Transcending raises a hero's star rating past 3, up to 6, and each step costs 150 hero pieces. For most heroes, the step to 4 stars matters most. The 5-star step is worth it when the hero's third burst skill gets a useful upgrade, while the 6-star step is usually not a priority, so it comes last. Premium and Limited heroes mostly transcend through duplicate copies, so they often need several before they climb far.
FAQ
Can you get OUTERPLANE heroes without spending money?
Yes, though it takes longer. Mene and Viella are free heroes, and Dianne or Nella can be chosen later as another free pick. New accounts also get a large batch of Special Recruitment Tickets for the regular roster, and friends can lend you their heroes for some early battles.
What is Affinity for heroes?
Affinity is a bond level you build with each hero by giving them Affinity gifts. Reaching Affinity level 10 unlocks that hero's Exclusive Equipment.
How long does it take to get or max out a hero?
At a typical pace, recruiting a hero you don't own takes about eight days, and transcending one takes about five.
