Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a Switch 2 sports game set on Wuhu Island, with every sport from boxing and archery to volleyball and skateboarding. You play with the Joy-Con 2, which works as a racket, a bow or a bowling ball in most sports. You can go solo in the Island Crown mode or play with friends.

Competitive and Leisure Sports in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort
The competitive sports are boxing, table tennis, archery, tennis, volleyball, bowling, basketball, golf and thumb wrestling. They're built around matches with a winner, so they're the ones to pick when you want a contest, whether you're playing the computer or a friend. Jump Rope sits outside the lineup, since it's a warm-up you can start with, not one of the sports.
The leisure sports are skateboarding, power cruising and prop plane, and they lean more toward exploring than competing. Each one takes you on a sightseeing tour of Wuhu Island, with the route tied to specific spots you pass along the way. Sightseeing Tour missions have you track down Spocco Photos, and Free Play lets you ride, cruise or fly around the island at your own pace. Each one also has a faster mode: Skate Sprint, Sea Sprint or the Prop Plane Ball Battle.
Motion Controls in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort
Most sports ask you to copy the real movement. Tennis lets you use any Joy-Con as a racket, archery has you draw, aim and release, and golf asks for a setup, a swing and a careful aim. Volleyball uses bumps, sets and spikes, while basketball has you bounce, pass and shoot. Because the moves look like the real thing, the controls are easy to read even if you've never played the sport.
Some sports add their own twists. Bowling puts spin on the ball when you twist the controller as you throw, and boxing has you mix up punch types to score a knockout. Thumb wrestling is a different kind of contest, since you pin your rival's thumb for a three-count, and pressing your own thumb down makes it bigger and stronger.
The leisure sports bring in new ideas too. Skateboarding uses the Joy-Con 2 like a computer mouse, prop plane has you tilt the controller to gain speed and roll through the air, and power cruising has you hold a pair of Joy-Con 2 like handlebars and twist one for a boost.
Island Crown Solo Mode in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort
Island Crown is the single-player mode for the competitive sports. In each one, you start at rank 20 and climb toward the champion, with opponents getting tougher as you move up. The champion offers advice as you win, and a tougher challenge waits after the champion.
Climbing the ranks earns cosmetic rewards along the way, and beating a sport's champion claims its Island Crown. That gives solo play a clear goal worth working toward.
Playing Nintendo Switch Sports Resort With Friends
Friends can join you on one Switch 2 or online through a friend lobby. Some sports, including bowling and archery, can be played by taking turns or by playing at the same time, so a group can choose the style that suits them.
A 100-Pin Bowling variant also returns, and its top score is 3,000 instead of the standard 300. It's a different way to play bowling when you want a change of pace.
Which Sports to Try First in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort
Your first pick depends on how you like to play. If you want a simple start, tennis and bowling use the most familiar motions, so they're easy to pick up. If you'd rather play alone, Island Crown gives you a ladder to climb, and the leisure sports suit a relaxed trip around Wuhu Island.
Trying a couple of sports from different groups is the quickest way to find out which motions suit you best.
FAQ
Is Nintendo Switch Sports Resort the same as Nintendo Switch Sports?
Not exactly. Nintendo Switch Sports grew through free Golf and Basketball updates, and its full lineup covered tennis, volleyball, badminton, bowling, soccer, chambara, golf and basketball. Resort keeps tennis, volleyball, bowling, golf and basketball, and adds boxing, table tennis, archery, thumb wrestling and the leisure sports. Badminton, soccer and chambara are not part of it.
Is boxing in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort from Wii Sports?
Yes. Boxing first appeared in the original Wii Sports, and it was left out of Nintendo Switch Sports. In Wii Sports, you threw punches with a Wii Remote and Nunchuk, while Resort's version is played with the Joy-Con 2.
How many players can play Nintendo Switch Sports Resort together?
Most sports take up to four players on one Switch 2, while Boxing and Thumb Wrestling are for two. Online limits change by sport, from two players in Boxing and Thumb Wrestling up to 16 in Bowling, and online play needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Can you play as your own Mii in Nintendo Switch Sports Resort?
Yes. You can play as your own Mii or pick one of the Sportsmate characters.
