Island Champions are the top-ranked computer opponents in Island Crown, the single-player mode of Nintendo Switch Sports Resort where you climb a ranking in each sport. Every competitive sport has its own ranking, and its champion holds the top spot at 1st place, which makes the champion the final goal of each climb.

How the Island Crown Rankings Work
Every competitive sport in Island Crown has its own ranking, and each one starts you at 20th place. You move up by beating opponents ranked above you, and those opponents get tougher the higher you climb. That way, each step prepares you a little for the next one rather than throwing you straight at the top.
A Super Rank Up can skip you ahead several places at once, which shortens a long climb. Rank-ups along the way also earn cosmetic rewards, which change how your character looks rather than how strong you are.
How to Reach and Beat an Island Champion
Once you reach 2nd place in a sport's ranking, you can challenge the champion at the top. Expect a real test, since the champion sits above every opponent you beat on the way up. Beating the champion claims that sport's Island Crown, and a tougher challenge opens up after it.
Who the Island Champions Are, by Sport
Most sports have one champion, and each one waits at the top of that sport's ranking. The single champions are Aya in Boxing, Yunsu in Table Tennis, Ximena in Archery, Aaliyah in Bowling, Filippo in Golf and Isamu in Thumb Wrestling.
Tennis, Volleyball and Basketball are the exceptions, since their champions come as pairs. Tennis has Chloé and Moritz, Volleyball has Lingling and Youyou, and Basketball has Ada and Kanin.
Why Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane Have No Champion
Skateboarding, Power Cruising and Prop Plane are leisure sports, so they have no Island Crown and no champion. Island Crown is built around the competitive sports, which means these three have no ranking to climb in this mode.
FAQ
Can I face the Island Champions on the original Nintendo Switch?
No. Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is a Switch 2 game and won't run on the original Switch, so you need a Switch 2 to climb the rankings and face the champions.
Do I need to be online to play Island Crown?
No. Island Crown is an offline mode, so you can climb every sport's ranking and challenge the champions without an internet connection.
Do the Island Champions give any tips?
Yes. The champions give advice as you progress up the ranking, so it's worth listening to what they say.
