The employees are the characters you play as in Mycopunk, a co-op shooter where you form a squad of robot rejects to fight a fungal outbreak on New Atlas. Each one plays differently, so the employee you pick changes how a mission feels. Knowing what each employee does and how to unlock the Mycologist is the quickest way to get comfortable in the game.

What Are Mycopunk Employees?
Employees are the characters you control in the game. Each one fills a different job on a team, from a sturdy front-liner to a fast flyer, a damage dealer, or a crowd controller. Many players call them classes for that reason.
How Employees Work in Missions
Between missions, you return to the HUB, the base where you prepare. There you pick an employee, choose your weapons for the mission ahead, and deploy to New Atlas. Once you land, your employee's abilities do much of the work.
The mission should shape your pick, too. A holdout suits a Bruiser, and a fast run suits a Glider, since those are the jobs each one handles best.
Each player in a team picks their own employee, so every person brings a different set of abilities to the fight. Each employee also has its own upgrade grid, so the upgrades you add to one don't change the others.
How to Unlock the Mycologist
The Mycologist joined the crew in the 1.0 update, and she starts out locked. You unlock her by rescuing her in Expedition Alpha, a special assignment that appears on the mission select screen in the HUB. Once you complete that mission successfully, she shows up as a choice in the HUB.
How the Mycologist's Infection Works
The Mycologist's kit centers on Infection, a meter that builds when she takes damage and when she uses her mobility moves. High Infection makes Fungal Skewer stronger, but too much of it lowers her maximum health, so you need to let it drop to stay sturdy.
Her Sporelift jump launches her upward, and holding jump longer gives a higher leap, but each use adds more Infection. Her Fungal Skewer summons spikes from the ground that hold enemies in place, and you can spend Infection to make those spikes hit harder. Most of her upgrades are built around this one meter, so managing it is central to playing her.
Which Mycopunk Employee Is the Strongest?
There isn't one strongest employee for every mission, since each one suits different jobs. Glider is worth a close look, mainly for its movement.
Glider is built for speed and attacks from the air. Its wingsuit lets it fly forward, so it can reach high ground, cover long distances, and get out of a fight quickly. Its Rocket Salvo locks onto targets and fires rockets that damage enemies and heal allies, and it runs on a cooldown instead of ammo.
Teams tend to work best when players mix roles. Glider pairs well with a Bruiser up front, and a Scrapper's grapple can be used by the whole team to move around. The Mycologist fits well beside Bruisers, Gliders, and Wranglers, where she holds back groups of enemies while the others deal damage.
Rankings shift with balance changes, so trying each employee is the best way to find your favorite.
FAQ
Does the Bruiser's shield protect teammates?
Yes. The Hard-Light Projector stuns enemies and reflects incoming projectiles, so it covers the team while it's up, and the Bruiser's Nose Dive can follow up with a heavy ground slam.
What should I upgrade first on the Mycologist?
Start with upgrades that boost Sporelift and how quickly Infection builds. After that, move on to the upgrades that improve Fungal Skewer.
