Megabonk is a third-person roguelite where every run starts from scratch, and you fight through hordes of goblins, skeletons, and giant beasts. Weapons are the attacks you carry into each run, and they fire or swing at nearby enemies without any input from you. The real decision is which weapons to take and how to power them up, since that's what keeps you alive as the waves grow.

How Megabonk Weapons Work
Every run gives you a limited number of weapon slots, and each weapon in them attacks nearby enemies on its own. You start with two slots and can open up to four by completing quests and buying slot upgrades in the shop with Silver Coins. Slots matter because upgrades get split across every weapon you carry, so each one grows a little slower as you add more.
Weapons grow in two ways. Leveling a weapon up makes it stronger on its own, while tomes, the stat boosts you pick up during a run, can lift every weapon you carry at once. That second part is what keeps a full set of weapons from falling behind.
How to Unlock Megabonk Weapons
A handful of weapons are available from the start, so you can play your first runs without unlocking anything. The rest stay locked until you finish a specific challenge and then buy them with Silver, and those challenges vary a lot, from defeating thousands of enemies to going two full minutes without taking damage. Once unlocked, a weapon can show up in later runs, so each unlock widens your choices at level-ups.
A few come down to luck instead, like breaking tumbleweeds in the desert until a weapon drops. Those are harder to plan for, so treat them as a bonus.
How to Get Weapons During a Run
New weapons come from level-ups. Each level-up offers a set of choices, and weapons show up among them until your slots are full. After that, level-ups only upgrade the weapons you already carry, so your first few picks shape most of your set.
Chests and shrines help too, but they mainly hand out items, stat boosts and experience rather than new weapons. Every upgrade also has a rarity, shown by color from green for common up to yellow for legendary. Higher rarities give bigger boosts, so check the color before you pick.
Megabonk Weapon Types and How They Attack
Weapons attack in a few different styles, and knowing them helps you build a set that covers more of the screen. Close-range weapons slash or swing at enemies near you, and some hit several targets at once. Projectile weapons fire from a distance, and some pierce through a line of enemies while others bounce from one target to the next.
Area weapons damage everything in a zone, either around your character or along the ground you cross. Trap and orbit weapons work on their own rhythm: some wait for enemies to step into them, and others circle your character and strike whatever gets close. Mixing styles keeps you covered when enemies come from different directions.
Best Megabonk Weapons
Dexecutioner, Dice and Aura come up near the top of most rankings, so they're a good place to look if you want a reliable, strong weapon. Rankings do shift with game updates, though, and some weapons only shine next to a specific partner.
Tomes can change a weapon's standing a lot, so a middling weapon with the right tomes can outperform a famous one without them. The best approach is to pick weapons that suit your character and the tomes you're finding, then keep upgrading them as the run goes on.
FAQ
Can you use another character's weapon?
Yes. Some weapons are tied to one character as its signature, but any character can equip weapons from the rest of the roster. Many strong builds mix them freely, so a signature weapon is more of a starting point than a rule.
How do you stop weapons you don't want from showing up?
Level-up screens give you two tools. Refresh rerolls your choices, and Banish removes options you don't need, and upgrades let it remove more. Later on, once you've unlocked enough, a Toggler appears that lets you switch off weapons, tomes and items so they stop showing up in your level-up pool.
What are the hardest weapons to unlock?
Two of the trickiest are the Hero Sword and the Corrupted Sword. For the Hero Sword, you have to beat a stage boss without picking up any items or power-ups and without using a shrine. The Corrupted Sword asks you to unlock the Cursed Tome, then reach level 20 before the run timer hits 10:00. Both take a focused run, so plan for them instead of stumbling into them.
Which tomes make weapons hit harder?
Damage raises a weapon's base damage, and Cooldown shortens the wait between attacks, so those two are the core picks for most weapon builds. Quantity adds more projectiles to each attack, while Size makes projectiles and area effects bigger. Precision improves your odds of landing critical hits, and Projectile Speed and Duration round out the useful list by making shots travel faster and last longer.
