Megabonk is a 3D survival roguelike in the style of Vampire Survivors, where you fight waves of goblins, skeletons and bosses while your hero attacks automatically. Before each run, you pick one of the Megabonk characters, and that choice shapes how the fight plays out. Each hero comes with a signature weapon, a passive ability that grows as you level up, and its own base stats. Most of the roster has to be unlocked before you can use it.

How to Unlock Megabonk Characters
Fox and Sir Oofie are available from the start, so you can jump into a run right away. The rest stay locked until you meet a specific goal, and those goals vary a lot. Some ask for a huge kill count, like a thousand skeletons or fifteen thousand goblins. Others ask you to push a tome to a high level, beat a boss in a certain area, or finish a set of challenges.
Meeting the goal doesn't unlock the character by itself. You then buy it with Silver, so both steps are needed. Many goals also require a specific weapon, which you have to obtain along the way. A few unlocks are longer chains, with several steps before you can buy the hero.
How Megabonk Characters Play Differently
Each character has a signature weapon that fires on its own, along with a passive ability that builds as you level up during a run. Those two things set the basic feel of the hero. Base stats matter too, since health, speed and other numbers vary from hero to hero, so the same enemy wave can feel very different depending on who you pick.
The weapon and passive are only the starting point. The tomes and items you collect during a run change what your character can do a lot, so the same hero can look completely different from one run to the next. Picking a character is really about picking the kind of build you want to aim for.
Best Megabonk Characters for Long Runs
Dicehead, CL4NK, Robinette and Megachad are the heroes most often named for long runs, and each has a passive that pays off more the longer you survive. Dicehead's Gamba rolls the dice every time the hero levels up, and the roll boosts a random stat for the rest of the run, so those bonuses keep stacking. CL4NK's Crit Happens adds a guaranteed 1% Crit Chance on every level, so critical hits come more often as the run goes on.
Robinette's Stonks passive adds gold gain on each level, and damage rises with the gold the hero carries. Early on, that damage is low, and spending gold too fast can cost power, so Robinette pays off most in runs where gold is managed well. Megachad's Flexing blocks incoming damage, and each flex adds permanent damage, so the hero keeps getting stronger through the big fights late in a run. These heroes need time to build, so they reward patience more than a quick start.
Best Megabonk Characters for Beginners
Sir Oofie is one of the easiest picks for new players. Its Fortified passive adds 1% Armor per level, which takes some pressure off the early fights while you get a feel for the game.
Megachad is also a good fit for new players. Its Flexing passive blocks damage and stuns enemies, which keeps the hero safer in tough fights. Starting with either of these gives you time to learn how fights work before trying the harder heroes.
FAQ
Is Fox worth playing in Megabonk?
Yes, as a first hero. Fox is free from the start, and its Firestaff shoots fireballs that explode on impact. Its RNG Blessing passive adds 1.5% Luck per level, so Luck tomes pair naturally with the hero.
How do you unlock Roberto in Megabonk?
Roberto takes more steps than most. Killing Big Bob makes the Scythe available to buy, and the Scythe is Roberto's weapon. You also need to defeat Spooky Steve, a boss you fight in the Graveyard. Spooky Steve is one of the tougher bosses in the game, so expect several tries. Once both steps are done, you buy Roberto with Silver like any other hero.
How do you unlock Noelle in Megabonk?
Noelle's goal is to use the Microwave to duplicate Ice Crystal three times in a row. You also need to obtain the Frostwalker weapon, and after that you buy Noelle with Silver.
