JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Spirit is a mobile game where you build a team of heroes and villains from the JoJo series. You recruit characters through random pulls and place them on a grid, where they fight on their own. Each character brings their own abilities, Stand powers (the spirit-like abilities from the series), and one of six fighting styles, so the mix on your team matters as much as who you pick.

How Characters Fight in Battle
Battles play out on a grid. You place your characters on it, and once the fight starts, they move and attack on their own, so your real job is building the team and timing its big moves. Each character has an energy bar that fills during the fight. When it's full, you tap their portrait to unleash their Ultimate, a powerful special move.
The abilities behind those moves vary a lot. Some characters hit a single enemy hard, while others strike whole groups at once. Some stun or slow enemies, some shield their allies, and some heal them. That variety is why a team with different jobs usually holds up better than one made of look-alikes.
The Six Fighting Styles Explained
Every character belongs to one of six fighting styles: Defense, Assault, Agility, Ranged, Special, and Support. Each style comes with a built-in effect that shapes how the character fights.
Defense characters are front-line protectors. For the first five seconds of every battle, they take 30% less damage, which helps them hold the line while the fight gets going. Assault characters heal themselves. Once their health falls under 40%, a basic attack heals them, and this can happen once every 10 seconds.
Agility characters are flankers. At the start of each battle, they target the enemy in the matching, or counterpart, position, so where you place them decides who they go after. Ranged characters get stronger with distance, dealing 5% more damage for every tile they stand from their target.
Special characters keep energy flowing. A basic attack restores 20% of their max energy, which helps the whole team reach Ultimates sooner. Support characters are emergency healers. When an ally falls under 30% health, they heal that ally for 10% of its max health. Both effects can trigger once every 10 seconds.
The styles also matter for teamwork. When three characters with different styles all use their Ultimates close together, Rush kicks in and gives a 25% damage boost along with a small energy refill. Three characters from the same style can't set it off, so a mixed team is what makes Rush possible.
How to Get Characters and Rarity Rates
You get characters through recruitment, which works on random pulls. Characters come in three rarities, R, SR, and SSR, with SSR the rarest. The base odds are 2% for SSR, 20% for SR, and 78% for R, so landing the rarest characters takes some luck.
Standard recruitment has a safety net. Every 60 recruitments, you're guaranteed a random SSR, so a bad streak can't last forever. Duplicates aren't wasted either. Extra copies feed a character's star progression, which is how it grows stronger.
Which Characters Are Worth Building First
Building a few characters well beats spreading your resources across the whole roster. Start with the jobs a team leans on most: healing, a front line, and energy. Once those are covered, fill the rest of the lineup with damage dealers.
Healing is a good place to start, since Support characters step in when an ally falls under 30% health. A healer keeps your front line standing through a long fight. Giorno Giovanna fits that role well, since his skills heal whichever ally has the least health.
A front line is the other must-have. Defense characters take the first hits, and their damage reduction covers the opening five seconds of each battle, so they matter most right when the fight starts. Assault characters can hold that spot too, since they heal themselves when they get hurt.
Energy is the last piece. Special characters are worth building if you want Ultimates to come sooner, because their basic attacks keep energy flowing. That also helps Rush, since Rush depends on Ultimates going off.
Building a Strong Team
Lay your team out to match the styles. Defense and Assault characters belong where enemies reach first, while Ranged characters need distance from their targets to get their damage bonus. Agility characters go after the enemy in the matching position, so place them opposite the target you want gone.
Some characters work especially well next to specific teammates, so a character who looks average on their own can shine in the right group. Check how abilities line up before you lock in a lineup.
Leave one spot open for whichever character you get next. Pulls are random, so the best fit for your team may not be the one you planned for.
FAQ
How do I make a character stronger?
Two upgrade tracks work side by side. Star Rank uses duplicates and shards to unlock extra skill slots at each star, along with HP, ATK, and DEF bonuses, and it tops out at five stars. Ability Level uses Ability Essence and coins to raise the power of the character's equipped Stand ability, across a track of 100 steps.
What matters most in Arena battles?
Crowd control. Arena fights reward stuns, disruption, and chains of stuns more than raw damage. A character who keeps enemies from acting can be worth more in Arena than one who simply hits harder.
Can I choose which character I get?
Mostly no, since every pull is random. The exception is the beginner SSR selector, which lets new players pick one SSR from a short list. On permanent pools, the SSR from the 60-recruitment guarantee is random, while limited pools guarantee their featured SSR instead.
