All 10 Radio Stations in Grand Theft Auto III

Updated on November 1, 2026 (about 4 hours ago)

Grand Theft Auto III's vehicle radio mixes pop, classical opera, dub, dance music, hip-hop, jungle, 1980s soundtrack cuts, and Liberty City talk programming. DJs, callers, and fictional commercials make the dial part of the city's identity rather than background music alone.

Liberty City's dial spans hosted music, continuous DJ mixes, talk radio, and platform-specific custom audio. Genre and host details help distinguish stations that otherwise share the same in-vehicle controls.

Choosing a station by sound

Head Radio and Lips 106 cover the broadest pop-oriented ground. Head Radio leans into pop, alternative rock, and adult contemporary music with Michael Hunt, while Andee's Lips 106 mixes Top 40 pop with alternative rock, hip-hop, and funk. Double Clef FM moves in the opposite direction, pairing Morgan Merryweather with operatic classical music.

The more focused music stations each have a distinct lane:

  • K-JAH plays dub and reggae hosted by Horace "The Pacifist" Walsh. Its music comes from Scientist's Scientist Rids the World of the Evil Curse of the Vampires.
  • Rise FM features trance and house hosted by Andre the Accelerator, with the music mixed by Terry Donovan.
  • Game Radio centers underground East Coast hip-hop and gangsta rap with Stretch Armstrong and Lord Sear. Stretch Armstrong also mixed the music.
  • MSX FM uses a continuous drum and bass and jungle mix by DJ Timecode, with MC Codebreaker on the microphone.
  • Flashback 95.6 is hosted by Toni and uses Giorgio Moroder's music from the Scarface soundtrack, giving the station its 1980s pop and post-disco character.

Chatterbox FM replaces music with Lazlow Jones taking calls from Liberty City residents. The callers' opinions, complaints, and increasingly strange personal problems turn the station into a comedy program and a snapshot of the city outside Claude's missions.

DJs, sequencing, and version details

Music, DJ links, and commercials are arranged as programmed station audio rather than a modern on-demand player. Tracks follow a fixed order, and changing stations switches both the music style and the surrounding program context.

Platform differences matter. Double Clef FM's performance of O mio babbino caro appears only in the PlayStation 2 release. Custom music is also platform-specific: the PC version calls the feature MP3 Player, while the Xbox version calls it CD Changer. It should not be treated as a standard built-in music station on every release.

Using custom music on PC and Xbox

The PC MP3 Player reads .mp3 and .wav files placed in the game's mp3 folder. It plays file names alphabetically and does not provide a skip control, so naming the files carefully is the practical way to arrange playback.

On Xbox, CD Changer uses music copied from a CD to the console's hard drive. Both versions let personal music appear alongside the in-vehicle radio choices, but their setup methods are different and neither changes the programming of the built-in stations.

FAQ

Q.

Which GTA III station plays hip-hop?

Game Radio is the main hip-hop choice, featuring underground East Coast hip-hop and gangsta rap hosted by Stretch Armstrong and Lord Sear. Lips 106 also includes hip-hop within its broader Top 40 mix.

Q.

Which GTA III stations play electronic dance music?

Rise FM focuses on trance and house, while MSX FM plays drum and bass and jungle. Rise is hosted by Andre the Accelerator; MSX uses a DJ Timecode mix with MC Codebreaker.

Q.

No. Chatterbox FM is a call-in talk station hosted by Lazlow Jones. Its programming is built around conversations with Liberty City residents rather than songs.

Q.

Why does Flashback 95.6 sound like Scarface?

Its music comes from the soundtrack of the 1983 film Scarface. The songs were composed and produced by Giorgio Moroder, which gives the station its consistent 1980s pop and post-disco sound.

Q.

Can you use custom music in GTA III?

Yes, on the PC and Xbox ports. PC uses MP3 Player with .mp3 or .wav files in the game's mp3 folder. Xbox uses CD Changer with music copied from a CD to the console's hard drive.

Q.

Are GTA III radio tracks played randomly?

No. The songs follow a fixed station order, with DJ segments and commercials forming part of the programmed broadcast. Custom PC music is also ordered alphabetically by file name.
