How to donate to the Museum in Fields of Mistria
The Museum is in The Narrows, west of Mistria, and it's run by Errol. You unlock it through his Museum Donations Wanted story quest, and from there you donate items straight into the set each one belongs to. A set is finished once every item listed for it has been donated.
Most sets ask for one of each item listed, and the Legendary Fish Set is the notable exception with a shorter list. Every set belongs to one wing, and each wing keeps its own progress.
When a set is finished, a Museum Set Complete notice appears right after the donation pop-up. That makes it clear when you've finished one, so you don't have to search through the sets to be sure.
Where to get Museum donations
Digging is the main way to get Archaeology items, and the Mines hold whole groups of them. Others come from diving or fishing once you have the matching skill, from fish traps at The Beach, or from searching ritual chambers and Mist Spots. Many of these finds only turn up in certain places, so you'll be moving around to fill the wing.
Fish donations come from fishing in rivers, ponds, the ocean and the Mines. Places like The Deep Woods and the deeper Mines add their own sets, some fish are caught with Fish Bait at any fishing location, and fish traps supply a set of their own.
Flora donations come from growing crops and flowers on your farm, foraging around town, and finding forageables with a pet on the Collect Forageables job. Balor's Wagon also sells many of them for Tesserae whenever they're in its rotating stock, so it's worth checking when you pass through.
Most insects are caught with a bug net out in the Overworld, while others stick to the beach, the Mines or the Deep Woods. The Honey and Terrarium items are made instead, through Apiaries and Terrariums.

This is the habit that saves the most trouble. Seasonal fish, flowers, crops and bugs can disappear when the season changes, and a Spring-only fish you skipped may not come back for almost a full in-game year. Rare catches and archaeology finds from locked areas can be just as hard to get again.
So keep one copy of anything you haven't donated yet, and check the Museum before you sell, cook, gift or use it. Once an item is donated, its extra copies are free to use however you like, whether that's selling for money, crafting, gifting, or feeding an Apiary or Terrarium.
Which Museum donations are hardest to finish
Most of the trouble comes from timing, weather and location. Seasonal fish, insects and flowers only show up in their own season, so the first week of each season is the best time to check what's new. Some fish only appear in rain, snow, wind or storms, and some bugs only come out during the day, at night, or in certain weather, so missing one can mean a long wait.
Legendary fish are a project of their own. Each one needs a particular season and weather, and they rarely show up during normal fishing trips, so set them as a separate goal rather than hoping to stumble on them.
Archaeology gets harder as you go. Some sets need a skill first, such as Mist Sight for Mist finds or Sunken Secrets for sunken ones, and the deeper Mines and later regions hold collections that can't be finished from the starting map. Re-check the Museum every time you open a new area, since it may bring new donations with it.
When the Museum stalls near the end, the missing piece is usually a whole system you haven't used yet, like Apiaries, Terrariums or late-game areas, rather than bad luck. Look at which wing is short, then which set, and work out where its items come from.
How to finish the Honey Set and Terrarium Treasures Set
These are the sets you can't complete by catching bugs alone, because their items come out of production systems: Apiaries for the Honey Set and Terrariums for the Terrarium Treasures Set. In an Apiary, the bee's rarity decides which grade of honey you get, so the Honey Set runs from regular Honey up through Premium, Deluxe and Legendary Honey. Honeycomb is a separate harvest, and it's chance-based, so it won't come every time.
Terrariums make Bug Pheromones and Fish Bait in several grades, and the Terrarium Treasures Set asks for those items themselves. They also help with the hunt for rare catches: Bug Pheromones make certain bugs appear after you use them, and Fish Bait narrows the search by rarity. Neither one removes season or location rules, so keep checking what's in season.
How Museum rewards work by wing
Each wing has its own reward track, and every finished set pushes that track forward. Rewards depend on how many sets you've completed in a wing, not on which set you happened to finish last. You don't need to finish sets in a particular order, so tackling the easiest ones first is a fine approach as long as you keep catching seasonal items.
Early rewards tend to be themed clothing and smaller treasure boxes. Later ones add furniture, cosmetic items and higher-value rewards. Archaeology's track, for example, includes Explorer clothing and furniture, decorative replicas and high-tier items, and the other wings each have their own themed progression.

Yes. The Museum can be completed as of version 1.0, so older checklists that say it can't be finished are describing Early Access. If your Insects wing is still short, check the Honey Set and Terrarium Treasures Set first, since both were added in 1.0.
