All 61 Buildings and What They Do in Dyson Sphere Program

Updated on November 7, 2026 (about 5 hours ago)

Dyson Sphere Program is a factory game where you build automated production lines on planets and out in space. Buildings are the structures that keep those lines running, from power generators and mining machines to belts, smelters, research labs and turrets that hold off hostile Dark Fog attacks. Knowing what each group does makes it much easier to plan a factory that runs well and to decide what to research next.

How to Unlock, Make and Place Buildings in Dyson Sphere Program

Most buildings start out locked. You open them by researching the technology that goes with them, then craft them in Icarus's Replicator or in an Assembling Machine using the materials each one calls for. Once it's made, you pick the building from its category in the construction menu and place it in the world. Some buildings come in upgraded versions, like belts, sorters and assemblers, and each newer version is built using the one before it, so you move up one step at a time.

Which Buildings to Get First

You don't need every building to get going. The early game centers on power, mining, smelting and a lab to start research, and those are the groups worth focusing on first. The technologies that matter most at the start are Basic Logistic Systems, Automatic Metallurgy and Basic Assembling, which opens the first Assembling Machine. You can research them in any order, as long as the materials they need are already in your inventory.

Power Buildings: How Your Factory Gets Energy

Power keeps everything running, and your first source is usually Wind Turbines. How much a turbine produces depends on the planet, so the same turbine can perform differently from one world to the next. Put them close to your mining machines and you may not need a Tesla Tower to carry power over.

Tesla Towers connect generators and consumers into a local grid, and they can go almost anywhere. Satellite Substations cover a wider area than a Tesla Tower does. Wireless Power Tower extends a grid and charges Icarus, your mecha, when it's nearby, though fuel stays useful for trips away from base.

For more power, Thermal Power Plants burn fuel and are the usual next step once wind isn't enough. Solar Panels turn sunlight into power, and Geothermal Power Stations work on suitable planets. Mini Fusion Power Plant and Artificial Star both burn fuel rods, and their ingredients are advanced materials, so they come later in the game.

Ray Receiver captures energy from a Dyson swarm or sphere and can produce Critical Photons. Accumulators store power for later, so a grid can draw on it when you need it.

Belts, Sorters and Storage: Moving Items Through Your Factory

Belts carry items from one building to the next, and sorters are the pieces that connect belts to buildings. Most buildings have input and output points around their base, and each point takes one connection. Smelters and assemblers need sorters to feed them, because a belt that just touches the side won't insert anything on its own.

Belts come in tiers, and each newer tier moves items faster than the one before. Sorters follow the same pattern, but the farther a sorter reaches, the slower it moves items. Splitters divide or merge belt flows, and their priority setting can act like an overflow gate.

Other helpers are worth knowing. Automatic Piler stacks items on a belt so each unit carries more, and Pile Sorter moves those stacked items between a belt and a building. Spray Coater applies proliferator spray to items on a belt, and Traffic Monitor measures what passes along it and can drive traffic signals.

Depot MK.I and Depot MK.II hold items, and you can stack them to add capacity while they keep sharing the same connection points at the base. Depot MK.II holds more than MK.I. Storage Tanks do the same job for fluids, and liquids like water and oil travel on the same belts and sorters as solid items, appearing as jelly-like cubes.

Logistics Stations: Moving Items Between Planets

Belts work well inside a single factory, but once your operations span more than one planet, you need stations. Planetary Logistics Station moves items between logistics stations and factories on the same planet. Interstellar Logistics Station moves items between planets using logistics vessels, and you build it using a planetary station as one of its ingredients.

Logistics Distributor works on a smaller scale. It uses logistics bots to move items between nearby depots and Icarus, which makes it useful for keeping supplies close at hand.

Mining and Extraction Buildings

Extraction buildings pull raw materials out of the world. The Mining Machine is the main one: place it over ore veins, and it sends what it mines to belts or storage.

Ore nodes run dry over time. Miners can overlap, but a node shared by more machines runs out faster, so it helps to spread them out and cover as many nodes as you can. Advanced Mining Machine covers a larger area and can feed logistics stations directly.

Water Pump draws water from an ocean, and Oil Extractor pulls crude oil from an oil seep. Orbital Collector gathers gases from gas giants and ice giants for interstellar logistics.

Smelters, Refineries and Chemical Plants

Production buildings turn raw materials into the parts and products you need. Arc Smelter turns ores and other inputs into basic materials. Plane Smelter, which is built from an Arc Smelter, works faster and supports more recipes. Negentropy Smelter uses Dark Fog technology to smelt materials at high speed, and Miniature Particle Collider processes high-energy materials, including antimatter production.

Oil Refinery turns crude oil into oil products. Chemical Plant makes chemical products from fluid and item inputs, and Quantum Chemical Plant, built from a Chemical Plant, makes them faster.

Fractionator separates a small share of the hydrogen flowing through it into deuterium. Its speed depends on how fast the belts feed it and carry material away, so the best setup keeps a steady stream of hydrogen moving in and out.

Assembling Machines and How They Upgrade

Assembling machines turn the items you feed them into components and buildings. Assembling Machine Mk.I is the starting point, and Mk.II and Mk.III each run faster than the version before. Re-composing Assembler uses Dark Fog technology to assemble recipes at high speed, and it's built from an Assembling Machine Mk.III.

Matrix Labs and Research Buildings

Research buildings turn materials into the progress that unlocks new buildings. Matrix Lab produces matrices and runs research, and your first science item is Electromagnetic Matrix. You make it from a Magnetic Coil and a Circuit Board, then feed it into the lab.

Matrices are something you keep supplying, not a one-time unlock, so set up a steady line for them. Once an Assembling Machine Mk.I is running, let it make the coils and boards, and keep your labs stocked with matrices. Self-evolution Lab is an upgraded version of the Matrix Lab, built with Dark Fog materials.

Dyson Sphere Buildings: Launching Materials Into Space

The Dyson Sphere is built in space, out of parts that have to be launched there. EM-Rail Ejector launches Solar Sails toward a Dyson sphere or swarm, while Vertical Launching Silo sends Small Carrier Rockets to build the structure. Together, these two buildings carry your materials from your planets into orbit.

Defense Buildings Against Dark Fog

Dark Fog are hostile forces that attack your factories, and defense buildings are how you hold them back. Gauss Turret, Laser Turret, Implosion Cannon and Plasma Turret all fire at ground targets. Missile Turret stands out because it fires at Dark Fog on the ground and in space, and SR Plasma Turret is a high-power plasma turret built for defending against Dark Fog.

Battlefield Analysis Base collects Dark Fog drops and can repair or reconstruct nearby buildings. Jammer Tower sends out periodic jamming pulses that slow nearby Dark Fog units.

Signal Tower attracts Dark Fog attacks, and it extends Missile Turret targeting to its signal range. That makes it a trade-off: you gain reach, but you also draw the attacks. Planetary Shield Generator projects a shield over a whole planet to protect it.

Holo Beacon: Map Markers and Memos

Holo Beacon belongs to the Environment group, and it's about marking places rather than making products. It shows a visible hologram at a spot you choose, and it can work as a map marker that shows where your factories are. It also has a built-in memo, where you can type notes for planning and records.

Its power draw rises and falls with how visible the hologram is and how big it is. Its optional beaconing setting can draw Dark Fog relays to its location, so think twice before you switch it on.

It's crafted from Iron Ingots, Prisms, Plasma Exciters and Circuit Boards. It has its own research, so you need to unlock that before you can make one.

FAQ

Q.

Do I need a building in my inventory before I can place it?

Yes. Placing a building uses one from your inventory, so you need to have crafted it first. If you've already placed one, Shift-clicking it copies it to your hand, but you still need the item to place the copy.

Q.

Do buildings need power to work in Dyson Sphere Program?

Many of them do. When power runs short, buildings can keep working at reduced effectiveness, but sorters need power to run at all and must sit inside a power field, and labs stop if the grid browns out.

Q.

Can you place Wind Turbines right next to each other?

No. Wind Turbines can't be placed too closely to one another, so leave room between them. The tutorial hands you a starter turbine, but its output is low, and you'll need more of them quickly.

Q.

What does Accumulator (full) mean?

It isn't a separate building. Accumulator (full) is the charged state of the regular Accumulator, so it's the same building holding power. Energy Exchangers handle the charging and discharging, filling Accumulators from the grid or pushing charged power back into it.
