Dinkum is a farming and life sim set on an island modeled on the Australian outback, where you farm, hunt, mine, fish, and build a town from the ground up. Crops are the plants you grow from seed, water, and harvest to sell or cook with. They don't all grow in the same season, so timing matters from the start.

Dinkum Crops by Season
Rice, sugar cane, and wheat grow all year round, so they're the safe pick whenever you want something in the ground. The rest are tied to one or two seasons. Potato and coffee bean belong to spring, beetroot, watermelon, and Mighty Spread to summer, and cabbage and pumpkin to autumn.
Carrot and kale are winter crops, while green bean and onion run through spring and summer, tomato through summer and autumn, and corn through autumn and winter. A seasonal crop dies on the second day of a season it can't grow in, so check the season before you put seeds in the ground. Watermelons and pumpkins that have already started growing fruit are the exception and keep going into the next season.
How to Get Crop Seeds in Dinkum
Rayne's Greenhouse is where you buy seeds, along with the hoe and watering can you need to start. Rayne rotates her stock and only shows seeds for the current season, plus the year-round ones, so the seed you're after might not be on offer until its season comes around.
Mighty Spread is the exception. Rayne doesn't sell it. Its seeds turn up in Deep Mine chests, and Jimmy sells them at a steep price.
How to Water and Plant Crops in Dinkum
Start by using the hoe to till the soil, then plant your seed in the tilled patch. Watering is the part that matters most day to day. A crop only counts a day of growth when it has been watered, so a dry day simply holds it back.
Rain counts, so a rainy day takes care of it. The watering can covers a small patch, and upgraded cans reach further. Sprinklers can water a whole block at once, and you can also add fertilizer to speed up growth.
How to Harvest Crops in Dinkum
A fully grown crop can be picked by walking up to it and pressing the prompt, or cut with a scythe. Be careful with the scythe, because hitting a plant that isn't ready destroys it. Upgraded scythes cut a wider strip at a time, which saves a lot of walking on bigger fields.
Later on, a tractor commissioned from Franklyn makes the work much faster, with attachments for ploughing, planting and harvesting. It's handy on a large farm once you've unlocked it.
Dinkum Crops That Regrow After Harvest
Most crops give one harvest and then need replanting. Coffee bean, green bean, tomato, corn, watermelon, and pumpkin are different. After you pick them, they grow back on their own, so one planting can give you several harvests.
That saves on seed money and replanting time. Pumpkin and watermelon spread out as they grow, so leave open ground beside them.
Best Dinkum Crops to Grow
Mighty Spread is the top earner by a wide margin, but its seeds are rare and expensive, so it's a goal for later rather than your first crop. For everyday farming, pumpkin and watermelon are the highest-paying of the common crops. Cabbage and kale also pay well.
Rice, wheat, and sugar cane are cheap to plant, which makes them a low-risk base for a new farm. Plenty of crops also go into cooked meals that give health and energy boosts, so a harvest has value even when you don't sell it.
FAQ
How long does it take crops to grow in Dinkum?
The quickest crop, kale, is ready in about six days, while coffee beans take the longest at sixteen. Most of the others fall somewhere in between.
Do animals eat crops in Dinkum?
Yes. Wild animals such as jackaroos and cockatoos will eat crops that aren't fenced off, and scared birds can fly over fences. Fence your fields and place Scarecrows to protect them.
Do sprinklers need a special license in Dinkum?
Yes. Sprinklers and the advanced version need the Irrigation License, which opens after Farming Licence Level 3. Watering by hand with a can only needs the Farming Licence.
