All 15 Class Mods and Unlocks in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor

Updated on November 1, 2026 (3 days ago)

Class mods are the specialties that shape how each dwarf plays in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor. Each one changes the stats and weapons of its class, and every class has three of them: Scout, Gunner, Engineer, Driller and Demolisher.

How Class Mods Work in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor

Think of the class as the type of dwarf you play and the class mod as the path you take within that class. Each class offers three paths, and choosing one is the first big decision you make with it. A mod decides which weapon families the game can offer you, such as fire and acid, explosive, projectile or heavy weapons, so the mod you pick often shapes the whole build.

Stats follow the same logic, and some mods trade one strength for another. Interrogator, for example, gives up direct damage in return for much stronger status effects. That kind of trade-off is why two players on the same class can end up with very different runs.

How to Unlock Class Mods in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor

You open each class mod by leveling up, and each one has its own rank requirement. Some unlock with your overall player rank, which goes up as you keep playing. Others unlock as you raise the rank of their own class, so leveling up Scout does nothing for the Engineer's mods. That's why filling out a full set means leveling each class on its own.

The Demolisher's three mods also need the paid Heavy Duty expansion, which added the class to the game.

Best Class Mods to Pick First in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor

New players have two easy starting points. Classic Scout is ready from the beginning, and Weapons Specialist is the early option for the Gunner.

A few class mods come up again and again as the strongest picks for their class. Tinkerer gives the Engineer a fast start, since its XP bonus and weapons that start at a higher level help a run get going. Juggernaut is the usual Gunner pick, since its extra health and armor suit players who fight up close. For the Driller, Interrogator is the strongest choice when your build leans on fire or acid damage.

Balance changes can shift these picks over time, so treat them as a starting point rather than a final answer.

FAQ

Q.

When does each class unlock in Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor?

Scout is open from the start. Gunner unlocks at Player Rank 3, Engineer at Player Rank 5 and Driller at Player Rank 7. Each class's mods build from there, so those ranks are the first step on each path.

Q.

Which class mod is best for bosses?

Sharp Shooter, the Scout mod, is the usual pick for bosses and single big targets, because its critical hit bonuses make each strong hit count.

Q.

Which Demolisher class mod should I pick?

Operator is the choice if you want drone weapons, since it opens the drone family. Contractor suits players who want to stay sturdy, with extra armor and maximum health.
